Anything worth doing involves solving a problem.
If you have a problem you want to solve and that requires you to have a Computer Science Degree, then yes. Though, you don't need to pursue a CS Degree to know how computers or software developing works, most of all info can be found online.

Also, most people who don't have computer skills above using already existing software is probably going to have their job automated away.

Do you want to "do" math? And I am not talking about calculating but proving.
Because when you study CS that's what you will be doing.
My advice is study EE/Math with CS as a minor or something because if you don't want to be a code monkey you might as well study the real thing.
