Moneygram doesn't need to hold this coin if they don't want to. Why would the employees at Ripple take paycuts or prefer to get some of their paycheck in xrp if it isn't going to do anything? Banks ARE using this currency. Japans SBI for example. The reason Ripple add and remove as much as they do in and out of escrow is for higher-value, on-ledger and cross-ledger atomic payments using the Interledger Protocol. ODL is what will allow the banks to easily make and receive payments. I personally think this will make the difference as I see utility in xrp. But again, I'm not trying to convince anyone otherwise.
