I'm poor and want to stop paying rent so I want to find land to park a trailer on and save money. I can see there are many websites advertising land for sale but is this a stupid way to find land? Should I just search for land ownership records and contact the hundreds of owners making offers until one says yes?

I’m looking to do the same thing and have been planning for years. There is no best way to do it, the key is finding the location you want to spend the rest of your life at.

Not 100% sure what you are envisioning anon.

There's sites listing real estate (zillow, redfin, realtors, etc), including just empty plots of land. Maybe you are not in US and things are different but I doubt it. Alternatively if you want to just rent a patch of dirt from some yahoo, then craigslist or the like.

I would guess you are probably not considering utilities: water, septic, power, internet. In the states at least, there are tons of RV parks where you can rent a spot with utility hookups for half the monthly cost of an apartment.

The big up front cost is the trailer. They are not cheap and do not hold their value well. They tend to be shoddily made and have non-standard everything inside, making repairs expensive. Additionally you will need a vehicle capable of moving the trailer.

If you are buying a bit of land, you should look for the one that has access to the water and electricity. Go on a road out of your town/city, and keep driving until you reach a farm. If you go during the morning (generally daylight), you can just approach some farmer and ask him to sell a small piece of his land to you. You might even see some boards saying "On Sale Call: ..." when you are on countryside.

You have to pay for this kind of info, you're trying to do the same that every single mother fucker in the world is trying to; buy cheap real state in America, do you think that if there is a plot of land at 1/3 it's real value there is not a fucking chink ready to opening his wallet.

There are deals out there but there is no straight forward answer, you have to check in your county's books for defaults, fire sales perhaps do a research for direct buy even door shopping, go out there looking for dilapidated properties and ask questions, maybe the owner is dead and the son will sell it for pennies in the dollar
Don't expect that to happen in any major city

If you aren't looking to buy, then yeah you're being an asshole. You'd probably be better off sleeping in a parking lot.

I've been debating just doing this but I don't want to live next to a bunch of people who are as poor as me.

I'm feel like I'm somehow gonna get scammed, but I guess if I do my research before purchase there shouldn't be any problems

Anon you might be a bit stupid
Might be an easier time if you just rented on a particularly nice trailer park. They have things like water and electricity.

Ahh, as proud white trash, living in a trailer on an acre of land, I feel uniquely qualified to answer this question. First I looked around the city I wanted to live near, then tried to identify rural communities. On google maps. I found some, and investigated them. Go on zillow to see what is for sale and what they think that shit is worth. No one will finance your trailer and land like a real house, so have some cash. I got my shit for ~$50k. If you absolutely need to finance, you're probably gonna need a job too and guess what: none of those here. Once you get it, you gotta pay property tax (like $300 a year) and your utilities, but otherwise is NEET heaven. Vidya, books, gardening, shooting, whatever you like, as long as its not restaurants and bars and shit thats in the city.

If you want to buy land, use a broker. The fee comes out of the seller’s share so it’s basically a free service.

did you bother with build permits or just quietly drop your trailer in?
