I don't understand why everyone treats houses solely as an investment/assets. I don't really consider my car as an asset, it is something that I need and use every day, and I plan on driving it into the ground where it becomes more expensive than it is worth to keep fixing, so I will either scrap it or sell it for cheap. Same with clothes and food, those aren't assets, they are necessities that I don't intend to sell. When I buy (or most likely build) a house, it will be because I want to live there and likely intend to spend the rest of my life there and leave it to my kids. If that is the case, the value of the house means jack shit to me, if I will never sell it, who cares about how much someone would pay for it?

If you take a mortgage with a downpayment, why not invest it into the broader stock market? I have them in TSLA and the returns are incredible.

The downside is I pay 1400*12 = 16800 USD in rent, annually. But in the long run, my asset has a 13%+ ROI (no downpayment, and lets say rent is approximately mortgage each month).

I'm also in tech, so I don't know how long I would stay at the current company before moving for a 50%+ increase in pay. Do I complete a mortgage regardless?
