how far can we diverge in appreciation publicly traded stocks against the economy of smaller businesses, main street. and other private corps that don't have the same avenues to raise capital as the big guys? I would assume that the loss of revenue from these smaller businesses being so far in the fucking hole would start eating at non service/tech large cap revenues - Russell 2k would probably get the brunt of this. Got any thoughts?

Political will, the left side of the aisle will be unwilling/unable to support both political activism and public safety measures, who would they even ask to enforce such a lockdown, the police?
The right side of the aisle are now starting to recognize that funding this mess was a mistake, it encouraged rioting and kept labor out of the market. They will not renew the July unemployment and there will soon be a sharp hiring squeeze. This is "bad" for the economy but great for the market.

My actual projections are admittedly just my personal gut take, I suspect a short term slump and another approaching the election. Individual bets have the most potential under these conditions.
Overall I feel we will be roughly caught up to the Feb high eoy, technically this would be an L shaped recovery.

That said I think long term this presents an opportunity for some small cap/value etfs to beat the qqq and s&p if bought at a discount. Oh you poor, naive young man. When you have a monopoly on academia, the media, entertainment, and the political discourse instilling a doublethink like that is quite simple. They're already trying to build up that narrative (see how they're reporting the Trump rally compared to the riots that have occurred, or how they still say those anti-quarantine protests were dangerous and can't be compared to the "safe" and "necessary" riots) and you can even see the success they've had with this narrative when you go on social media. Never underestimate the perfidiousness of social engineers.

I think this is going to happen on the indexes, almost definitely. It'll be more like that old 10 year stagnation period we had, i don't really see the big drop off on the indexes like Nikkei did at these prices.
>I think long term this presents an opportunity for some small cap/value etfs
yeah, I'm starting in on small miners. I'm wondering how the rest of the world will be doing in 2022 and 2023. the anglosphere will hopefully be business as usual, but i really can't see commodities staying this low for too much longer. short term, I think those GUSH and JNUG kiddos are probably right, but they should be looking out at about 3-5 years, not under 1.

This really is more likely to have more to do with budgets imo. The rioting is likely also them trying to get federal gibs, but we'll have to see. Also not to belittle your valid point, but:
>monopoly on academia
actually scared and cutting budgets in anticipation of huge fallout of revenues
>the media
potentially in danger of having some 1A cases getting re-examined, hardly able to support themselves
>entertainment

Their apparent success is only a mirage. China had 200,000 Twitter accounts in 2016, 125x as many as Russia did, virtually all brigading against Trump. The number is almost certainly worse now. The left side of the aisle gets a lot of help from a lot of subversive elements, but the message they sell is only successful in that they may temporarily convince people of the message's successful adoption, but never of the truth of the message itself. A subtle but very important distinction.

I switched to the B ones and currently holding 770 shares and feel dumb that i didnt sell last monday.
But we gon do make it. Shell is much more healthy than any other oil/gas stonk.
Shell sitting at 40 Billion € cash reserves due to credits and dividend shrinking.

sure, if you pick the right growth stocks,

you act as if I don't have a growth portfolio in my mutual funds.

but if you're looking at the big picture, dividends account for a massive percentage of overall gains in the stock market'

also, the purpose of dividends for retirement is: 1. I don't have to sell any shares if I'm living off dividends. 2. Today, the first $40K of dividend income is tax free (80K if you're married). On your sold shares to maintain retirement you're going to be paying capital gains tax.

Few investment products have brand-name recognition. Vanguard mutual funds is one of them.

The 40-plus-year-old company’s mutual funds and exchange-traded funds have long been a mainstay in 401(k)s, pension plans, IRAs and managed portfolios.

But longevity isn’t the sole reason Vanguard has become a go-to source for retirement plan administrators and individual investors. The firm’s forward-thinking, fee-conscious approach to fund management — most notably launching the first publicly available index mutual fund — has helped its customers get markedly better investment returns than what more conventional funds delivered.

What are Vanguard mutual funds?
Mutual funds are investments that pool investor cash to purchase stocks, bonds and other assets. They offer a cost-effective way to create a diversified portfolio — where your money is spread across a variety of investments instead of going into a single stock — without the hassle of having to pick and manage the assets on your own.

Vanguard manages and sells mutual funds, with investment pros analyzing and picking which stocks to hold to try to beat average market returns. But the company is best known for pioneering index mutual funds, which seek solely to match the returns of a broad market index (like the S&P 500) or other benchmark.

Why investors love Vanguard
There are three main things that make investors happy:

1. Choice
Vanguard’s comprehensive stable of more than 170 mutual funds and 80 ETFs allows it to fill every niche of an investor’s asset allocation needs. Offerings include:

Index mutual funds. Since company founder John Bogle launched the Vanguard 500 Index Fund in 1976, Vanguard’s suite has expanded to include index funds for bonds, international stocks, emerging markets and more.

No. Even in normal market it's not a good idea, in a rare market like this one where there's not enough data to get a solid strategy, it's even worse.

Re: Hertz HTZ
>More like that judge doesn't give a fuck about retail investors and is loyal the debtor agencies.

That judge basically invited new common-stock investment in HTZ since it had shot up post-bankruptcy (Chap. 11 reorganization, not Chap. 13 doom). Controversially and famously now. Would she destroy her own personal reputation by cheating the stock buyers? I doubt that she will make HTZ common stock worthless after reorganization. Maybe the "insane" robinhood zoomers buying (if that's who they really are and not Buffett?/munger, say) will stomp on the Boomer wise men saying "No, No! This is insane! This is bankruptcy!"
