coinbase owns equity in reserve and since they're an exchange they also want on-ramping. so the reserve app takes on the added risk for converting local fiat / paypal payments and on-ramping the unbanked people and coinbase lists rsv so these people can jump into the exchange to buy stuff without worrying about fraud or exchanging the currency or some other regulatory issues. rsv will be like a mini-exchange and even if coinbase doesn't list rsv just using some kind of swap contract would suffice to get people to swap from rsv to some other crypto on the fly and then send it out to any exchange they want. im sure they're already thinking of some integrations they could do once the app gains some traction. basically it will be better to list rsv than not list it if you're coinbase as long as the team proves itself this is very possible and much sooner than people might expect.
