I was swing it successfully today while it fluctuated between 195 to 220, profiting on 1% to 3% spikes. Made 21% of my portfolio today alone doing this. Last purchase I made today was at 220, forgot to set a stop loss, walked away from my computer for a bit to do something I couldn't put off any longer, came back and it was at 210. Held thinking it would spike back up, but that's not what happened. I'm currently sitting here with a 30% loss. I lost every thing I made today trading TVIX, and a little of what I made yesterday.
I got more cocky each time I bought, upping the money I spent on it.

I bought into IVR, MITT, MFA, essentially at the top because I thought that shit was gonna moon well past where it is currently.
I sold all my positions that were doing well that netted me about +50% profit and bought into the REIT train.

Doesnt look like that shit is going anywhere soon. Hopefully these tickers can climb back to these recent highs.
The market looks shaky in general, I never shouldve bought back in immediately but I got greedy, thinking the good run couldnt end. Lesson learned.
If you dont stick to your plan or instincts you pay the price.
Now I gotta baghold this shit for the foreseeable future.Im not prepared to settle at a loss, this stock can drop to fucking zero and get delisted before I take loss.

god damnit, got spooked out of my theta plays on MITT with that insane earnings and so got out of my positions at break even thinking it was going to dump past the threshold on the put i sold.
i was expecting it to yoyo but then seeing the yoyo and the early market price action i was just like nah.
and then, lo and behold, it did every theta players wet dream. traded absolutely flat, and IV collapsed 50 fucking percent.

Well shit looks like T is gonna sell the Games division for 4 billion. This is just talk so who knows if its even legit. On one hand this isn't to far fetched cause both Disney and Comcast don't even bother with in house games anymore so this would merely be following the trend. On the other as a T share holder I'm sad that part of the empire may be gone soon even if it raked in a fat wad of money. I hope it's just talk.

sounds like you're doing precisely the right thing.

i would suggest you find a sector of the economy that interests you (oil for me) and find companies you like. watch how they do, see if they conform to your expectations - and if they don't figure out if perhaps your assumptions were incorrect, or OTOH if perhaps the market is missing something that you see.

Example: I really, really like XOM. Reason being that they invest very heavily in exploration and new production. For many reasons, this is absolutely critical for oil companies.

So I bought a fuckload of it and am going to hold that bitch a long time. That's my anchor, that and RDS.B.

See what works for ya.

Shorting is good. There was plenty of bears after 2009 through 1017 and they kept stocks in line. It was just steadily increasing gains. No matter when you bought after 2009 you pretty much just made money. And it was good returns too, 12-13%.

Something happened around '17 where people became irrationally bullish and this lead to run ups and crashes. And while you get years like 2019 where the market was up 30% you get years like 2018 were you have 30% crashes you end up with a lower annualized gain and people getting fucked buying the tops. Its good for traders, but the economy has been fucked up on something since 2017.

I'm not a shorter. I don't short a company unless they're doing fraud. But the stock market is supposed to be where you get accurate prices from market participants and these price signals tell people where to put money to get the most output for society as a whole.

Bailouts and QE and all this shit have turned the market stupid and the prices don't mean anymore because everyone just wants more freshly printed money from papa jpow. All the money gets allocated in stupid ways and not into places where people can build stuff.

I'm not an expert but this is a much different situation than the typical bankruptcy that you see coming from months away. This could work out like a crowd funding of a bridge loan to restructure debt and right the ship with the gamble that the market returns in time to continue more normal operations. Basically this would be outside money coming in to take a sizeable ownership stake via dilution but a better than small chance that equity doesn't get totally wiped out. Their long term debt is roughly $16B, short term $2B, so if they can just level that $2B via assets sales and this share offering it's very possible they pull it off.

When everyone thinks they understand why something is happening it very often ends up being proven wrong. There is definitely big money taking this bet that it can be pulled off. There will be many more Zerohedge rage headlines about how insane it is that Hertz is moving up as a bankrupt company, how it makes not sense, how bad the collapse will be, etc. And it will just keep going up. Honestly if you just buy bluechips with nice dividends and hold for 5+ years you should be good. Daytrading has never been good not now not ever. it’s good that younger people are getting into it but they are doing it wrong by thinking they will get rich in month. Just work and invest little by little. Look at wallstreet they expect 20% gains in usually like 3-4months not in days.

If they went through bankruptcy they might be able to survive and get rid of some debt. Now they need to sell shares which lowers the value of each share. I have no idea what the price should be, maybe it's a steal at 2 dollars but my feeling is it is going to be bid up to a price that will make no sense at all.
