Market is run by computers. They need maintenance. Imagine hold long it takes you to transfer 5TB of data. They're doing the same every night with fresh cash print USB. From what I was told by my guy who works at NYSE, they plug USB at close, and then it transfers money half the night. It has 2 hour window to fix crashes.
