there are also websites that let you post fake house rental listings and pay for them with crypto bought with fake CCs.

there are moneygram, western union type scams but those are very risky, complex yet more effective. most people just want an xbox. buy a fraud guide on the dark web if youre really interested

The success rates for all of them are so low what is frequently successful is probably not the biggest variable on what makes scams profitable. ATM skimmers, by far

there was a big push by the networks (Visa/MC/etc) for chip cards because of this.

fun fact, banks in the united states only recently (5 or so years ago) started issuing chip cards whereas Europe has had chip cards since the early 2000s. skimmers were VERY common there.

skimmers only work for magstripe and some chip cards will not store CVV (3 digit on back or card) nor expiration date on the magstripe. meaning the only way for magstripe to work is if you also enter in your PIN (where the encrypted PIN will be routed to your bank, decrypted by the network key, immediately re-encryptped using the bank master key, and compared to the encrypted value stored in a secure database, and if they match, approve the transaction)

eventually skimmers that read magstripe data will be obsolete. there may already be hardware out there to read chip data but soon everything will be contactless and encrypted making it nearly impossible to steal data off the card without having the physical numbers on the card.

all they are doing is pulling the magstripe data off the card and placing it on a physical card.

once again, nearly all cards these days are chip and most chip cards do not store CVV/exp. data data on the magstripe, requiring a PIN to be entered in order for a transaction that is initiated with a magstripe to work

PINs are never stored on the card, anywhere.
