I worked at Target during breaks when I was in college, honestly wasn't that bad desu. Working the registers was shit yeah, but if you were in the back or on the floor it was fine. Black Friday and Christmas Eve were pretty cancerous but they gave time and a half as well as food in the break room.

Hospitality is a terrible industry. Your job is basically doing damage control for all the fuck ups of the hires who are there because some other person who works there made a case for hiring them and then you have to deal with all their princess schedule needs bullshit.
Hospitality industry is like being a mechanic and your job is to fix this really big broken machine but while you are on one side putting in new parts, tightening bolts, and replacing wires the owner is on the other side breaking more things that you already fixed. This goes on and on until you realize that the machine will never work properly because your efforts are actively sabotaged whether knowingly or not. You realize that because of the sabotage it makes no sense for you to work any harder than you need to. When you get to this point you better have an exit strategy lined up.
