OK, so the average incubation time for COVID19 is 7 days, and the Minnie protests started on Thursday? And unemployment numbers come out friday, but we get a preview tomorrow morning. So there's still a chance the market gives back SOME of its gains. But for it to drop 5% on the week, that's SPY 289. I don't think you're going to get that.

Should I watch that show? Do I need to watch the first one?

I am bearish on literally everything about the economy for the next year or longer except the stock market and maybe gold. You should first have a savings account with close to what you would need for 6 months if you lost your job, 8 preferable, before you invest (or at least investing will be a trickle). In general, the safest play which is also the most boring, is putting money into a low expense cost index fund that tracks the world stock markets or the us market since all markets variously follow it.
Some small fraction would go into a bond tracking index fund which performs better during economic downturns. A ballpark spread is 90/10.
There is some value to picking individual stocks but it requires doing a lot of study of companies that have potential for growth on long timespans of a several years or greater. Micromanaging your portfolio will usually hurt you in the long run.
thinkorswim is an app that I think doesn't require an ameritrade brokerage account that would allow you to "simulate" investing in the market with fake money. People use it to learn and practice strategies.

so why arent we seeing any reaction, will it not come until after quarantine is lifted and theres a job shortage realization. >Are Stock Markets in general a good second income or is it just based on how good you are on managing it?
Depends on time scale and capital investment. Dividends, MLPs, and REITs are regular fixed payouts for holding the underlying over time. The annual payout will be a small fraction of the price. Meaning it requires a lot of capital investment to get significant secondary income. I think Europe has the equivalent of MLPs and REITs but can't say for sure. Keep in mind your government will almost certainly tax it, and tax it more heavily if you are not holding it for longer than a year.
Also I will repeat myself. Very few professionals can "beat the market" (aka index fund) on a consistent basis. They will have an incentive to tell you otherwise to charge you fees. Investing is primarily about diversifying risk and it really is hard to outperform a sampling basket of the entire market. Investing management is more about portfolio management. Not so much trying to pick particular winners in asset classes but the variety of assets themselves (stocks, bonds, real estate, cash, gold, whatever). To hedge against inflation and deflation by having assets that work well in both. That is where the 90% stocks/10% bonds portfolio I mentioned comes from.
Investing is looking at time scales of years to decades and doesn't really play well to constantly updated threads like /smg/. This is primarily a general for trading, which is very dangerous if you don't know what you are doing and can accept enormous risk.

>How much exactly? Is there an example on how much Dividends you get and how often?
You have to be careful with Dividends. They are not obligated to keep paying them and may actually pull them when times are tough (which is precisely when YOU might need that income as well). Royal Dutch Shell just did that for the first time in decades this quarter. Companies that are also doing poorly will look like they have great yields when its very likely they will suspend them entirely.
I would say the US company Johnson and Johnson has the most stable dividend on the planet and its 3% yield. There are also investment vehicles that will allow you access large pools of securities called ETFs. There are quite a few ETFs that are tailored to pools of stable dividend stoks. The advantage of this approach is, again, diversifying risk so the payouts are consistent. The tradeoff is that ETFs charge small annual fees that may eat into your potential gains. The best ETFs for this should have expense ratios of <0.1%.
>Seems like i wont cut it with that small amount. But i think for learning at the beginning its fine.
I don't like dividend stocks for a lot of reasons but that fixed income can be very valuable for retirees.

The taxes are deduced directly by German brokers or through regular tax forms if you use a foreign broker, which I personally reccomend doing.

With yield rates such as they are, I think there is a good argument to be made for the truly invincible dividend stocks like JNJ to work like bonds or money market funds. If JNJ ever becomes worthless than the whole market is likely in flames and having any money in the market was probably a losing move.

>>19490374
None of them have a fixed rate. Basically a dividend is issued when a company has either grown so large that it needs to spend less money on reinvesting and starts paying out shareholders. The dividend can grow over time, it can stop, it can decrease so it's important to select companies that have a good balance sheet, payout ratio, dividend history, and revenue growth.
REITs are structured in a way so that they avoid corporate taxes / pay less if they payout a certain amount of profits in dividends which is why investors like REITs, because the payouts are higher and most real estate companies have a pretty straight forward business model.
MLPs are Master Limited Partnerships which is a particular kind of corporate structure. You get a K1 with these and unless you have a CPA they can be tricky to file. An example is BIP.

Most dividend investors structure their portfolios based on their risk tolerance, circle of competence, and income needs. The more risk averse they are, the higher allocation of low yielding but safe bonds they will likely have. The more risk /volatility tolerant they are the more volatile or risky stocks they will have.
A volatile stock could be anything that is effected by many different factors of the economy like a REIT or oil stock. A stable stock is one that is not, like Coke (KO) or a utility company

Modern Portfolio Theory would tell you to have a broad allocation of multiple companies across many sectors to hedge against any one company or sector taking a nose dive. Personally, I don't like MPT and think if you're going to do that just buy an index fund and a REIT and be done with it.
Otherwise I don't think anyone really needs more than 10 stocks.
Personally I use an index like a high volatility savings account.
My dividend focused portfolio is only made up of 7 stocks.
