Because the government subsidizes it. That's quite literally the only answer.

Because you retards sue the hospital and doctors when the tiniest possibility appears.
In America you don't go to a hospital to see what's wrong with you, you go to see what is not wrong with you because they make every single exam possible, even if they are not even related to your problem so people don't sue their asses.

No you dumb faggot I'm trying to show why the government makes it expensive and fucks everyone over,

and why it should be much less expensive than it is today.

>>194728
but if the government makes it expensive someone has to be making a profit, who?
possibly some politicians cousin or an old friend who owns a medical company

>someone has to be making a profit, who?
The health insurance companies, the government, doctors, unionized nurses and medical personnel.

All who are scum and should have their jobs lost or at least a massive paycut.

ok, quick recap

It wasn't but some fags in the 50's and 60's used really high tax brackets

This caused employers to attract labor with benefits in addition to wages, because our fag congress made it so health benefits were tax exempt (so they wouldn't feel any political pressure to actually lower taxes, which was the right thing to do).

After it because very normal for your employer to be your health provider, congress made tons of more BS laws that encouraged and sometimes forced most employers to purchase group coverage, and these plans exempt pre-existing conditions and other market forces.

Once you have a job and health insurance, it is paid by your employer. Many people don't feel the need to actually adopt health habbits, because they are not financially responsible for their health. This puts a strain on the medical system that a healthier populace would not duplicate.

People with medical benefits they don't have to pay for tend to use them, even carelessly. Many people use these plans with a hypochondriac mindset that they would have if they were financially responsible for their health.

It also hurts the person without group insurance the most, because the freeloaders put a ton of strain on the system, reducing capacity and driving up prices for people that really need help.

Insurance companies do not offer insurance plans the same way we buy car insurance. When we use car insurance, we pay our own vehicle maintenance out of pocket, and the insurance is there for us only for UNEXPECTED events.

Individual plans (non group) pay more than 60% just for access to medical system (the insurance companies create a network of doctors and focus on using these connections to provide perks and checkup's and features etc). Less than 40% of what you are paying is actually for insurance in the traditional sense of the word.

ObomaCare is doubling down on the stupidity. The price of medical care probably won't go down, but the quality will

Jews.

Historyfag here.

It actually predates that. Employment-based healthcare coverage started with wage controls during WWII. Since so much of the labor force was enlisted, industry had to compete for the remaining men. Since factory owners weren't allowed to compete on wages, industry offered more fringe benefits to attract the scarce labor. Following the war, a period when labor still held economic and political power, these benefits remained in place.
