polkadot is by gavin wood, ethereum cofounder who wrote much of the early code (and most of the mistakes)
notably, the parity multisig wallet was messed up for months. despite a first hack ending without trouble thanks to white hats, parity refused to do due diligence and eventually their contract got exploited again, causing hundreds of thousands of eth to be locked (including most parity ico funds, which they didn't need anyway because they're filthy rich from ethereum)
for the past 3 years parity tried to lobby the ethereum community for a bailout fork, mostly through (unsuccessfully) astroturfing plebbit, medium and conferences
gavin also writes fanfiction about having sex with teenage girls and generally looks like the type who has an asian sex slave or two locked in his basement
