Why are you even discussing individual companies?
Don't you know about factor investing?

Actual research suggests time and time again that buying and holding low expense broad market ETFs is the rational decision.

Factors explain more than 95% of performance difference between diversified portfolios

You can increase your exposure to factor risks by buying smallcaps instead of large caps and increase your return by buying on margin but anything beyond that (identifying value stocks, momentum, volatility) requires a professional commitment for marginally higher returns

For non-professionals putting everything into SPY or a smallcap equivalent should be about it honestly. Doing anything else means that on average you are lowering your ROI

Now that we have finally come through the crisis and everything is gradually opening up again, so the economy is also flourishing, I have tried to save as much money as possible to invest. Unfortunately, I am a student with a low income, I managed to scrape together 2.5k eur. I would like to use this as seed capital to invest in a portfolio or 1/2 companies max, depends on the strategy.

Since this is relatively little money compared to the average investor who makes good money from dividend payments, im would like to focus on a stock that is trading low. Preferably between 5 and 10 dollars. I looked at some oil stocks where I noticed HAL and MRO.

I am not afraid of volatility as I would like to hold a stock for 1 to 2 years max and then take a new position.

Do you /smg/ have some stocks in mind for me? Stocks above 5/10$ are also welcome if they are lucrative.

The right column is how profitable your bets should be in order for you to succeed.

Eg. if you can only get it right 25% of the time, you can succeed by only picking bets that have a 3x payoff or better.

The more accurate you are, the less payoff you need to succeed.

Me, I'm trying to stuff a years salary in the bank before I turn 40 in 3 years. Now I could do this either by cutting my long term retirement contributions down which would fuck me long term or by getting another job which would frankly eat into my "free time" way to much and prob kill me due to lack of sleep. So doing short term stock trades is perfect. I'd keep my time, I'd get my sleep, and I'd keep my long term retirement intact.

I have personally tested the 3 bar play and found that when applied correctly it has extremely high success rate. The only problem is finding the setup before it happens.
Currently I use Chande Momentum Oscillator on a 30m timescale. I noticed there are support and resistance levels on it that are extremely robust. Exploiting this, I enter a trade when the resistance and the support that was broken on the previous way down are both passed, and I exit when chande bounces off a resistance and goes below the previous support level.
I'm still experimenting the find the optimal amount of candles to use and the optimal timeframe, but so far I'm getting an almost perfect winrate with an average return over 3%. Average trade duration is just under 1d. I just need to scale up my position and figure out the implied risk so I can correctly assess my R:R.
This strategy works best on high-volume stock, I only trade if the price is between $5 and $50 and there's at least 500k normal volume. Moreover I use relative volume to screen for potential hits and then look for chande almost hitting the previous resistance. When it goes through, I buy in.
Another example that works well for low-value high-volume stocks (e.g. pennystocks) is triangles and wedges. I have only tested it a little bit because I don't trust pennystocks, but that seems to be fairly stable.

More importantly it's a diversified portfolio, meaning you capture exposure to general market risk

If you only buy tech on top of general market risk, you add risk for that sector (while the market in general is doing fine)
if you only Microsoft you again add the risk of that particular company failing for whatever reason (while tech in general is doing fine)

You can also buy your own diversified portfolio without an ETF but you would have to care about periodically selling/buying to readjust your portfolio

So, what are your hot opinions on FAANG?

I see there's a lot of people riding high on hot air future outlook expecting these giants to pull money out their ass when in reality, a lot of growth has peaked unless new services or products are coming out and positioned to be successful.

Google
Last time I checked, Google horribly fails at any type of expansion it tries to do into B2C whether it's phones, video game consoles, network infrastructure etc. They're still mainly an ad company and their incompetence at anything new they try is embarrassing and alarming considering all the money they're capable of throwing around. They boast about having a think tank workforce but they can't have a properly engineered core product, struggle with marketing, obtaining IP, and customer service.

Amazon
The most impressive out of all by far. Proper diversification and management of in my opinion. Very impressive vertical integration: modernized shipping (serious infrastructure commitments), warehousing, B2C portals. Ventures into cloud computing, advertising, consumer electronics, streaming, subscription, brick and mortar retail. I think the investor salivation is justified minus the anti trust fears.

Apple
Stagnation concerns. They don't know what to come up with anymore. Problem is that iphone is the big cow and smartphone market is getting feature saturation. They're also not know to take heavy risks with design.
Interested to see what the shift away from Intel will bring, and how they are going to get and ARM platform started. This seems risky in terms of software support but it's not their core revenue segment. They've managed to grow their services respectably and keep the ipad and computer lines relevant so that's a plus. China concerns here as well.

Netflix
Barrier to entry for competition is frighteningly low these days and entrants already have their own IP to put into their services and partnerships with other providers. HBO, Disney, etc. etc
If Netflix doesn't put out/acquire rights to good IP and doesn't meet subscriber growth, what is there to look forward to?
Facebook
Ad revenue. Only so much user growth and ads can be fed to them. Earnings talk for themselves.

doesn't that give you a heart attack for long run outlook? There is nothing impressive about their wearables sector. sensor based stuff you can do with having an electronic strapped to your arm so immediate industries of interests are fitness healthcare both of which aren't the first thing to come to mind when you think of good opportunities. wearable was made with integration into their ecosystem in mind blah blah, at the end of the day, whats the core non redundant consumer value? iwatch doesn't even seem to have that much of an appeal as status symbol compared to iphone. It's just a redundant gift you buy someone.

Services sector for Appul is as good as their ability to acquire IP and the availability and ease of use, which they do a very good job. No matter how good growth outlook is in this sector, I don't see it becoming much larger.

The problem with GCP, and I would argue a lot of other Google products, is that they do not know how to properly integrate and sell to enterprise customers. M$ tramples all over them.

It's less about value to people's lives and more about how it translates into revenue for the company. Google search is the core relevant product because it's the gateway into their core revenue stream (advertising). Search being a good core product enables a good core revenue stream.

The Pixel line is a shitshow in my opinion, something they started as a subsidized dev phone (Nexus) that got popularized into something that was then rebranded into a flagship line that they couldn't market or support properly. Yet it's still priced relative to the iphone at this point, which is delusional.

DAL seems to be the chosen one of the three but I don't want to touch any of them long term.
I'm okay with riding the headlines on DAL for risky short term gain. They have decent support at 20 and I don't think anything worse can happen to the industry until the fall since bailouts had conditions that extended into that period. The guidelines are just that, and I won't be suprised if restrictions loosen as this fades from news cycle and local ordinances get trumped by fed

because he has a 20- to 30-year outlook (whether he lives that much longer is besides the point), there's reasonable concern that airliners may be changed completely due to covid19 depending on how effective an RNA vaccine will prove to be. While there's no reason to believe that covid19 is going to be as unusual as HIV, a vaccine for coronavirus is still not going to be as simple as a flu vaccine or some shit.
I have not heard an argument for this DAL retards on why they are so certain it's going to go back to pre-March levels other than """price memory""" sentiments. Just the single fact that people would have to go to quarantine for weeks is enough to make overseas vacations unfeasible.

seriously though, why pick airliners over any other sector that's been recovering fast?

DAL looks tempting from both a pure reward play and on the risk/reward scale. From what I've been reading they seem to be safe from going under (the feds bailout money aiding them to). Making a nice gain from it what I'm after but losing my investment money ain't on the cards. So I'm glad they seem to be well protected. If it takes a few years hey that's fine. It's the argument between risking all your money for 5x returns vs being fashionably late and getting 2x returns at much lower risk.
I just get this feeling that most people seem to disregard the idea of bankruptcy entirely just because they're essential when an airliner can totally file for bankruptcy while remaining functional throughout the process.

You're right, there is no good reason if you're really factoring in the amount of uncertainty you have to bear. Between layoffs, cash burn, fleet consolidation, bailout effects, capacity restrictions, regulations (self imposed due to media pressure or actual new laws) etc.

>vaccine for coronavirus is still not going to be as simple as a flu vaccine or some shit.

You're assuming that this is going to linger in the news cycle and push for vaccine is going to be strong as a result. Reopen forces are too strong, and really a lot of people don't give a flying fuck about it evident by how they are treating the restrictions put on to them to date. Not saying this is good or bad, I don't care, just don't see this whole mass vaccination or second wave happening with how the first wave has resulted. Maybe administration change would shift that but economy can't afford another hit

I've got 8000 to use as short term cash generating money so my thinking is spiting it between DAL and few oil stocks I've gotten feedback on. These are not long term holdings by any means. They hit the pre-virus levels, they're sold pronto. My long term holdings however will remain just that, long term, never sold just added to. Long as I turn that 8000 into 12,500 by my 40th birthday in 3 years frankly I don't care what it's parked in, long as it don't fuck me over. I don't think it takes a lot of pencils and graphs to speculate on where the short term bottom was at this point. Exiting on reopen headlines would have at least mitigated loss if you want to act on your principles/strategy. I think we live in a strange time when the headlines are worth a lot.

>Also there’s the idea that if you wouldn’t hold a company for 5 years, you shouldnt hold it for 5 minutes.
there is a proper time to sell if you want to exit a position especially when short term bottom can very well be called (closure of econ. )and short term jump can be seen (repoen) .

Your entire argument resorts to a fallacy argument about averages but that isn't useful here. The people that remain here month over month without blowing their account doing dumb shit have above average ability and market insight. A lot of us were able to get out of the market before Corona Virus tanked it, against the typical investing advice that timing the market is impossible, and we have substantially greater returns through that alone than those who just held SPY the whole time.

You don't need to be a professional to beat the market, It is actually easier to turn a profit if you're not a professional because you're not beholden to any investors, you can switch leverages easily or weight high performing companies much higher than what you would get with any ETF. Intelligent people should at least test their ability to beat the market instead of just assuming they can't because of the mantra repeated by idiots.

It requires too many mods to be as fun as very lightly modded oblivion. Morrowind is for when you want to immerse yourself in a very poorly made yet interestingly alien world. Oblivion is if you want to enjoy emerging encounters like an npc randomly deciding to pickpocket another, getting caught, and being murdered by a guard, or abusing NPC meal schedules to make them eat poisoned apples, or physically jumping on a winebarrel that you fill with grapes to make wine, etc. Its quests are also a lot more fun and much better designed, and despite what nostalgia goggletards say, even the dungeons are better in oblivion. It's copy-pasta in morrowind as well, but the procedural algorithm in oblivion adds more variability despite the sameness.

Anyway, cousin put a penny on the headstone as well and i asked what that meant. It turns out there is a whole tradition with leaving coins on military headstones.
Penny = you visited the grave
Nickel = you attended boot with the person
Dime = you served in a deployment with him
Quarter = only applicable if the deceased was killed in action. It means you were there when he died.

>Oil is going to fucking moon hard
Oil cannot "moon hard" right now. The prices we're at are a direct result of OPEC+ supply cuts and US well shuttins. Fuck what media/special interests/politicians want you to believe, demand still extremely low, refinery utilization sits around 65-70% in the US, down from 90-95% last year, and contango has absolutely evaporated while oil is sitting at $30-35/bl. All signs point to a long and hard crabwalk before we see anything good.

Voluntary supply cuts and floating storage must be unwound before upward mobility can occur. Even if everything goes perfectly for oil producers, $35+ WTI puts many US producers back in the game, which is going to plateau the price for a very long time, as the demand deficit over the past few months dwarfs any perspective supply deficit we can project into the future.

Meanwhile, all it takes is China having a second wave, India opening up too slowly, EU/Americans refusing to travel/commute or consume petrochemicals, or somebody to cheat on their production quotas, and you're in deep shit again.

Get out of the oil market if your outlook is less than a year, or if you're looking for immediate upward volatility. Oil will almost certainly march back to 50$, but it's going to take a long time to get there. In the meantime, oil is is near an extremely precious peak at the moment.

"We've confirmed a clean release from the aircraft. However, the mission terminated shortly into the flight. Cosmic Girl and our flight crew are safe and returning to base."

Virgin Orbit just exploded its test rocket. I hope none of you own SPCE.

What you said about airlines concerning FUD and all that was exactly what factored into my decision to dump my United Airlines and JetBlue. Warren Buffett and me just happened to of reached the same conclusion

I don't know, SPCE is a meme stock that has been showing weakness lately and I think this will only add fuel to the fire. As a spaceflight company, Virgin Galactic is pretty laughable but that didn't stop idiots from pumping it in the first place, that may still happen in the future.

I have zero long term positions at this point in general. I'm not holding at this point, I'll let the dust settle.

I rather make a few points a few times in the short term and juggle bags and keep cash on hand than get stuck with heavy bags when some meme headline drops in this memeclownshit world.

Airlines pump very nicely on any positive industry news so I just ride the headline waves

How do you trade anons, do you pick some stocks and follow them, or do you use scanners and trade everything, even shit you don't know nothing about, just to try to catch the price movements?
