my club doesn't take tee times, you just show up and play. we have 27 holes so it makes 3 different courses. granted, 75k is crazy for a club and most of the really, really elite places are nowhere near that amount because they are old and already own the land outright. my club is just under 100 years old and is only 12k a year. there are a handful of big name sports people in the club because of how close we are to major sports network as well as bigger fish in local f500 companies.

in the 5 years i've belonged i've only played by myself or with my dad because fuck playing other people, i pay to be left alone.

Really insane membership fees is an American thing. I'm Irish and the most prestigious clubs would maybe top out at £10k-£20k. We don't really have that "exclusive country club" culture though, if you can pay the green fee you're welcome anywhere. Even places like Royal County Down which is one of the top 5 courses in the world, or Royal Portrush that just hosted The Open. McIlroy's home course is 15mins from my house and it's £85 a month.
