There's a fine line between productive greed and abuse of financial systems. The latter set should not overlap with the former. And it's the latter the produced the GFC, that produced the corporate debt bubble that resulted in the March fire sale, and that exacerbates the economic suffering of Main Street or outright instigates it.

>> No.19278962

no, they're reckless and have done little to nothing to add additional value to the economy for the last 8 years. They've leveraged themselves to the fucking tits to appease shareholders and are now at risk from 1 fucking month of interrupted cashflows. They have improperly used the tools available to them and are now sitting there smug, because they expect to be bailed out. Chapter 11 means that they need to get a remediation plan together to close their accounts. If a food producer is included in the reckless bunch, bankruptcy proceedings should not interrupt their operations.

isn't it kind of strange/funny how many major companies there are in the United States that literally didn't have the means to survive even 2 months of an economic downturn?

I realize the unnecessary retarded lockdowns were a chokehold on a lot of businesses, but major corporations went from doing fine, to laying off their whole workforce and filing for bankruptcy within two months. If that happened to your company as a CEO, you should be fired without severance and never find a job again.

There's a lot of assumptions there. I'm waiting for more economic and CV clarity before buying anything, because right now the view is too hazy from a macro and historical/recessionary standpoint. How about you stop thinking dogmatically along permabull/permabear lines and realize that there are folks out there that don't mind playing either side, but also look to the broader picture when deciding on their risk tolerance and investment strategy. Everything that's been stated is what's happening on the ground and being reported every week, every month, by the Fed, the government, and associated policy and health officials. None of this shit is simply off-the-cuff analysis, but what's already being discussed by policy and market makers. Burying your head in the sand doesn't change what's happened or what's happening.

The reason it dropped has been laid out time and time again. CV was a trigger, nothing more. Speculators that got caught in a liquidity trap due to taking on riskier and riskier bets and getting complacent over their winning streak. That began the liquidations and they only got worse from there until liquidity all but dried up from the markets. It could have been the election cycle, it could have been gloomy economic data as we were already at the end of the business cycle. CV was a trigger that smart money used to pull out ahead of the curve while the rest either didn't see it for what it was or were to complacent to care. The resulting economic shocks from the shutdowns then triggered the recession that had been looming for at least a year or two. The economy was already showing cracks.

>>19279427
Things should be cautiously optimistic. We've only just started the recession and the second order economic effects that every major player is preparing for have not had enough time to occur. Recessions take years to play out.

Correct, debt and credit are a powerful tool (that has been completely abused). But you're absolutely full of shit if you think upward price action has to do with anything other than the availability of cheap credit. The obligations of the companies are generally too great or unsustainable without access to cheap credit, especially NASDAQ.

There are aspects of the supply chain that are weak but the virus simply isn't killing fast enough to totally disrupt it. Some routes are being restricted due to losing a driver, some plants are closing for a few weeks when an employee tests positive, but it's not happening hard and fast enough to totally crash things. The rising prices on meat helped stave off shortages and so far produce has been coming pretty solidly because it's essentially slave labor and the climate is bad for the rona. There will definetely be a few big "oh shit" brand shortages in the coming weeks which will panic people but the simple truth is that people will just find other stuff to eat because the US has a shitload of food.

Our stock market is needed to run the entire global economy. Banks in every countries trade currencies, stocks, and assets to our banks. A foreign bank can buy US stocks, GS can buy stocks from other countries, which is in the form of ETFs. So if the US Stock Market crashes and the giant banks go bankrupt, other countries will experience it too as these banks are tied to all the other foreign banks. The foreign banks will be forced to go bankrupt as their assets stored in our banks get liquidated. The clients of these foreign banks won't be able to withdraw their money and as the crisis spread like wildfire across the globe, the global economy contracts, and then crash causing shortage over food and manufacturing. This will cause the collapse of entire countries, forming civil war over arable lands and trade routes. It isn't called The Great Depression over nothing. I'll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I've been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I'm the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You're fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that's just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little "clever" comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn't, you didn't, and now you're paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You're fucking dead, kiddo.

I think the SOXL shill has a much higher return than that and mostly got out of it before it crashed. This is some idiot playing around with his parent's money.

I don't want your advice. You probably try to give people advice here all the time yet you can't even manage to beat the market. You really need to stop posting and switch to index investing.

By saving my ass off for a few years when I was house sharing with friends during my 20's. The housing shit fest was a gift. I stole this house (price wise that is), I took advantage of the owners own incompetence (blotched electrical work in the basement). The net result; I pay 400 a month.

Just remember that a job is a means to an end. Money is a means to an end. Neither of them are really the end. And that adage, "the grass is always greener on the other side", well that's a truism that should always be reflected upon. I think, maybe, the question you need to be asking yourself is: "what is the endpoint? What is my endpoint?" Then set yourself up for the apparent least-resistance path to that.

Oh in that case you can use it as an opportunity to explore new things and network with people, your degree isnt the only thing you get out of college.

Yeah, Sadly I just am not sure what I want to do with my life at this point. I will be moving here shortly into a new community I know no one or anything about. I am planning to take a month to meet people and network as best I can and see what happens. If I find something, great.. if Not I will probably go to school while i build connections and figure my shit out.

SLV imo. I bought call options for June 19 @ $16 which is pretty conservative desu.

Regarding the market, we're about to see a slight reprieve as states ease lock-down protocols and allow movement to begin/resume but we will never return to 'normal' as they say... Within six to eight weeks following 'business as usual' (assume early to mid July) we'll see a rapid increase in infections and deaths from RONA to the extent that they will be forced to implement a second and more aggressive lock-down in all areas... rona has a feature which is specific that allows it to accumulate via exposure and eventually kill you. It's not like the flu where you get it once, bounce back, and are done with it. It's now taking the young. Also, it spreads like wildfire in every climate including isolated, low-density desert towns. This virus is fucking phenomenal.

All the above being said, what we have right now is an attempt to ease public aggression by allowing people a last breath before submerging them again indoors. There will be much more hurt and pain, especially as wall-street becomes entirely disconnected from main-street. All this talk now about the 'US economy recovering well' is a rhetorical spin to coverup the stark reality for the unemployed masses with no safety net as massive subsidizes are being given to unprofitable and unproductive corporations which will hoard this cash to the detriment of society and jobs will not be coming back for years.

We're seeing basically the restructuring of American (and global) consumerism and day to day life fast-forward at a magnitude of five...

This will be worse than 9/11 in regards to civil liberties...

The market hasn't really begun to hurt either... Expect more pain to come.

Push your boundaries. Do shit you're uncomfortable with. Explore. I know so many people that just jumped through the hoops and pidgeonholed themselves into a whole slew of life decisions and they're... Very domestic, all they can talk about is work or TV politics - totally superficial shit, totally inane shit. If you have the resources and opportunity to do it, going into strange terrain is a great opportunity to spread your wings, and actually, not like going to strip clubs with the squad. Ironically: don't take advice from anybody and follow your heart. At least you won't be left self-flagellating over shit you should've done but can't anymore.

I think the timeline will be slightly accelerated, to within June as opposed to July, but otherwise that all seems very plausible. I'm not sure the extent to which states will try to implement large-scale quarantines, as opposed to regional ones isolated to hot-spots seeing CV resurgence, at least at first. If R_0 spikes and it becomes completely un-contained, and we see an overwhelmed healthcare system, then I think they would make the move to state-wide quarantines again. Based on the past month, I think governors will be hesitant to go full-quarantine unless there were no other alternatives. I doubt markets will remain disconnected for much longer, maybe a month or so, but Q2 data, a continued lack of forward guidance, and deteriorating economic conditions on Main Street will begin to take their toll, as usual.
