Is anyone aware of any websites where one can practice arguing and debating online that has a general higher degree of intelligence than 4chan. But also a place where everything doesn’t boil down to an argument from authority.

By arguing with people who understand the precepts of logic in math and/or prose (language). I’m not talking about a place like Reddit or Twitter which are a representation of General society which is pretty stupid. I mean a place where people understand objectivity where I can comfortably concede that I’ve been outwitted and/or proven wrong and it doesn’t end up in calling each other retarded faggot and the like.

I come on to 4chan a few times per week and I mostly end up in arguments where I feel like I’m debating people who are mostly uneducated and I’m not saying that to be pretentious, just seems the atmosphere has changed and I’d like an opportunity to get into arguments where the goal is logical concession

Seeking logical conclusion is novice tier. The world is made of contradiction and paradox.

Didn't necessarily say "conclusion," I said "concession." People can concede to disagree or to agree on the existence of a contradiction or paradox. Regardless, are there any places that you'd consider a bit higher than novice tier?

/sci/ is the best debating board on this site. Good chance you'll catch someone who's actually smart and ready to break you down with sources and logic.

Im doing research for my undergad capstone, one of the questions in my survey asks "How often do you experience "conflict" with other gamers" I would appreciate participants so that I can analyze and graduate!

I'm a big fan of late 1800s, early 1900s legal tender. I had a very valuable collection stolen and pawned off by a drug addicted relative. Makes me sad that I'll never be able to get those notes again.

You want a formal debate club anon.

Be warned, debate club arguments are a terrible way to convince people in real life, even in a debating to an audience format, so if you want to learn to write/speak persuasively you'll basically be deliberately developing bad habits.

Second warning, if you're going for debate "wins" rather than a discussion to mutually further your understanding of the topic then you need moderators because people generally don't succeed so really what you're doing is trying to convince those specific people.

That being said, in ascending order of formality:

https://forums.spacebattles.com/forums/vs-debates.4/ for debating meaningless nerd shit, http://www.edeb8.com/ for politics

https://www.aisnsw.edu.au/virtual-debating/virtual-debating-guide for face to face via video chat

Debate is meaningless, the only time you should be debating is when you want to convince people listening to the debate as they have an open mind about it, trying to convince someone who believes something for a reason i.e upholding self worth/world view is pointless as they will twist and bend mentally to invalidate you
