Because banks require that you provide a source of income as a pre-requisite to receiving a loan. If OP went through the trouble of faking a personal income statement then I don't see why he wouldn't get away with it as long as it was a bigger bank who wouldn't have the time to call around and make sure he's legit. My bank requires 2 years of tax returns for a loan though.
