You need to assert dominance. When he asks you to solve a problem, tell him the problem is stupid, then solve a problem of your choosing.

For real though programming interviews are easy. Grind 100 leetcode problems just to get that shit in your short term memory and you'll be good to go. Maybe 150+ if it's your first time.

Interviewed at Amazon in the past month, and received an offer. Biggest tip is to know your shit, like actually have learned it on the job and at school. They aren’t going to give you trick questions, just hard ones. Since you probably haven’t done that, study the leetcode problems for AMZN, giving yourself 30 minutes (you’ll do 3 problems like this in the interview). Actually set a timer and force yourself to do the problem.

Then go over potential leadership principles questions because they’re just as important. If you don’t have a good example for every one, think harder. Or again, actually try harder in real life. If you are looking at the Nashville office maybe I’ll see you around.

Not understanding that it says the key to doing well is to know your stuff at the start, you only have to be an autistic crammer if you aren't already a solid leader and developer. Even then you're just proving that you can be a code-monkey and will probably just stagnate, but I guess you get a paycheck at the end of it.

Who cares if the languages are different, you're not copying the code it's the algorithms you care about. Adjust to python as necessary. Other tips: Know the common idiomatic usage of your language of choice. Know your data structures. Know how to analyze efficiency.

>>19114196
>Then go over potential leadership principles questions because they’re just as important.

Can't emphasize this enough. Except for one person, every person in your loop will be focusing on one or two of the leadership principles. Memorize what they are and come up with a good story illustrating each one. Listen to what questions they ask and you'll probably be able to figure it out and parrot the relevant story. It makes it really easy for them write it up as you having a "good example" of that principle.

The exception is the "Bar raiser", whose job is to make sure you're "raising the bar", which sounds hokey because it is. Really their job is to make sure the group hiring you isn't dropping their standards just to fill headcount. When you meet your interviewers the person who isn't in the same org you're applying for will be the bar raiser. They can kill your application on their own, so make sure you impress them with how good of an Amazonian you will be.

How am i fucking wrong? Python is literally babbys first language. Why should I hire someone who doesnt understand pointers, and in C++'s case OOP as well? AWS is an NFS file system which is coded in C++ so why wouldn't someone who shows up to an interview and not whiteboard in that language be considered? Im not some fa/g/got trying to get this dude to read SCIP, I'm trying to give good advice on an Antarctic snow watching forum. If you don't know some system level programming and fucked around with FUSE you dont have a chance.

Do you understand how these interviews work? They do NOT care if you know C or C++. If you have to learn it you can just learn it. The choice of programming language is not to impress them but to show you know how to solve their problems.

You want to join the team you play by their rules. Best advice I ever got at Amazon was that the company doesn't care about how much of a special snowflake you are, it values only how good of an Amazonian you are. If you don't like how that works, don't work there. Some people love it and stay forever. Most people are able to put up with it as long as the compensation is worth it and then leave when it isn't.

they do this to make sure they hire only the most ambitious, competitive assholes who will be constantly trying to outdo each other to please Lord Bezos. The problem is you can't all be promoted. So enjoy working 40 hours unpaid overtime every week to demonstrate how much of a great leader you are.

Oh no, you figured out the secret. Better delete your post because Bezos will hunt you down for sure.

You're exactly right. And many people eventually leave because of that. However, if you've managed to stick at Amazon for more than a few years and especially if you've gotten promoted, it's a great line on your CV.

Because it means that you *are* one of the "most ambitious, competitive assholes" and it turns out being that is a valuable commodity.

If you are are actually a codecuck, working at FAGMAN, even the worst one, is an easy way to get a gold star on your resume and get recruiters excited.
