Years don't matter unless you're a numismatist. What matters is your preference for form factor versus premiums. If you feel most comfortable with coins (difficulty of counterfeiting, highly recognized and thus highly liquid, beauty of design), buy coins. If you're looking for the lowest possible premiums, buy bars. Rounds occupy an area between coins and bars. Personally, I opted for coins (2,000 ASEs and 500 Silver Maple Leafs) with another 250 ounces in 10 oz bars.

Note that I bought some time ago when premiums were quite low. At today's premiums, I would not buy ASEs.

>Real yields are a comparison interest rates to CPI
What does this even mean? Also yields/price are inversely related. As price goes up for a bond yields go down. All you’re pointing out is that PMs are safe haven assets, like long duration treasuries. That’s not news.
Negative interest rates (in the long term) are extremely unbelievably bullish for gold. Think of real yields as the opportunity cost of not owning gold. When they’re 2% someone has to sacrifice that in order to hold gold. When they’re 0% then the gold investor is not losing anything in opportunity cost.
CPI is not directly related to yields. Saying we will have negative interest rates therefore gold will tumble is nonsensical. If we have major deflation (which can accompany negative interest rates but won’t necessarily accompany negative interest rates - see Germany) that’s bad for gold but the US situation is totally different. We may see short term deflation but the US literally won’t be able to afford interest rates rising so rates will stay negative/low even as inflation ticks up, which means PMs will moon like in the 70s.
