I first heard about it when it pumped to 20k I was in highschool then and was broke and had no money. I bought my first bitcoin around 6k just before it dumped to 3k

I tried margin trading it but now after doing hours of research on the global economic system and what bitcoin actually is I have resolved to only accumulate bitcoin and never sell for years to come.

2011. Heard about the crash to $6 from 30 or something. My friend talked about it, we didn't really know if it would catch on or if the creator knew of a vulnerability in it or something. Didn't really understand it fully or bother to take a deep dive.

I heard about Ethereum in 2014, for some reason I thought it had already launched and was 300 usd. I remember being quite surprised when I found out in 2017 that it had just crossed that mark. I thought about getting into eth after first hearing about it, but decided not to because I thought something could just copy what they are doing and it could be made irrelevant.

After all this time, btc and blockchain are still safe, ethereum is still relevant.

So in 2017 I figured, fuck it I'll buy chainlink. I bought. No regrets.

3rd times the charm right boys?

I heard it mentioned every now and then on 4chan before late 2013, but it wasn't until that late 2013 golden bull run that took enough interest to research it. spent a few weeks trying to buy in 2011-2012
price was below $3, but I was so annoyed that I could just use paypal or debit card etc to buy i gave up. only choice was to send passport (didnt have one) to some shadey type of site which i wasnt gonna do.
Also knew about mining it on home pc's but didnt have a gpu (still dont) so i didnt bother.
Also heard about ethereum at $1 or when i was about to launch and thought "smart contract" sounded like bullshit buzzwords.
Furthermore, I have $10K ready to risk at the end of 2015, I put it in a horse racing pool that had earned $250% per year the last 3 years, but the year i put it in, the rules changed hlafway thru and i lost 4k, and had to wait all of 2016 to get my remaining money out (6k) as it was locked in for a year.
FML 10k was enough to be a millionaire by 2018.
End blog post.

In 2013 after I fomod in and got dumped on I forgot about it again because I assumed I had been scammed. Everyone was making fun of top buyers and I felt like a fucking shmuck for falling for it. I first heard about it on a libertarian talk show in 2011 or so when the price was $15 each. I was broke then so couldn't afford to gamble with things like bitcoin, plus I thought it was another kooky libertarian idea like Liberty Dollars that would never work out. Shortly after that the price shot up to like $100 per coin and I thought "well that's it, I missed my chance". like a lot of people in here, i first bought bitcoin sometime in 2012, maybe the spring of 2012?

i remember the prices being between $7 and $14 when i first started buying bitcoin in high school to buy drugs on the silk road. i was pretty broke back then in fairness, me and my friends would all get $20 every couple of weeks and put it all together, then i'd buy drugs online.

i remember the first time thinking it could make serious money when i had like a few dollars worth of bitcoin left in my mt. gox account, i left it untouched for awhile, went back a few months later to buy some drugs in the summer and i had like 70 or 80 bucks.

but the volatility scared me off and most of the things i heard about BTC was pure FUD about how its only really used by criminals on the deep web. i didnt have a real job until around 2013 or 2014, so that was the point in my life when i could have afforded to buy a few hundreds dollars in bitcoin here or there. and i remember stupid shit like dogecoin coming out around that time and thinking that crypto was kind of retarded.

i also remember the mt gox hack and shit like that put me off of crypto, because i didnt take the time to learn how private keys or personal wallets work. i thought the easiest thing was to keep it on mt gox lol. i didnt know how to store BTC and i never took the time to research anything about emerging markets, the potential of bitcoin, i didnt know turbo nerds made bitcoin i just thought criminals made it and controlled it.

even though i heard about satoshi i thought that was just some scam story, didn't know what a white-paper was at the time or what cryptography was.

felt a bit stupid years later, at least it taught me a good lesson about looking for ways to make money. im disappointed i wasn't smart enough or jewish enough to research it or predict that it could be very profitable it has reached. but hopefully going forward i'll have other chances to make a lot of money.

The volatility was something that scared me off too, I felt so helpless seeing the price plummeting.
So I would've never held them until 2017.
