I just learnt that my trust fund will pay out $30k a year starting next year. Assuming I land a job that makes about the same, what should I do with the money?

if you need an explanation when someone says "All in diversified ETFs." then you're too retarded to do anything other than throw that money into a savings account, and work a normal job and slave away
i mean you've gotta be retarded to not be able to look anything up when it takes 2 minutes to understand things fully now straight off a search right?

two sets of questions:
A(what is the fund? what assets are in the fund? are any notable restrictions/requirments?)
B(who are you?/what do you want?)

without the general answers to both sets of questions we will be of no help

A) I'm not quite sure how the fund functions, just that I won't be able to access the principle until I have 35 or 40 (I', 24 now). I also think that the payout will increase by $2000 every year, but that sounds unrealistic unless my parents are just adding more money to the principle to increase returns.

B) A rich kid who isn't good at anything and who was handed everything. The most I aspire to is having a comfortable bachelor life in SEA somewhere never having to work and being able to travel.

Fair enough.

Learn about buy and hold passive style of investing in marketable securities (stocks, bonds, ETFs) to preserve your payouts and continue to live frugally. As for what to do with your time? If I were in a situation like you I'd go into philanthropic work or work for an NGO. If you have the entrepreneurial gene in you, which it sounds like you don't honestly, go into real estate investing and make a business out of passion project on top of marketable securities investing.

Also, become familiar with the old adage of "Shirt sleeves to shirt sleeves in three generations".

ok cool. So here is what you do: put 50% to automatically invest in S&P etfs, put the other 50% into the highest yield saving you can.

Then focus all your worldly and spiritual energy into answering the questions "who am I?" and "what do I want"

When you realize they are the same question (two sides of the same coin) you will be ready to proceed. Don't fuck this up.

Thanks for the advice. I actually was thinking of getting into real-estate investing with my dad and our grounds-keeper/family handyman but just the thought of spending so much money to start a portfolio filled me with anxiety. And we're in the Northeast US so its not such good pickings anyways.

I really hate I don't have the risk-taking entrepreneurial spirit my father had but maybe the risk-aversion will be useful in preserving the wealth he passes on.

>> No.18989543

Wealth preservation is more important than wealth creation. Keep your consumption low and let the compounding effect take care of what you already have and will have in the future. Your aversion to risk will help you preserve your hoard. Good luck mate.

Yeah, this is probably the best advice, even if its cryptic.

Honestly, the trust and all other investments I'll probably just put in the hands of my father's financial manager (who is now also my financial manager) and he'll probably do this or something like this. I was just curious as to what /biz/ would do as I assume they'd have more ambitious/interesting plans.

atleast you own it
wouldn't trade places unless I was intellectually gifted and stuck in the 2nd/3rd world

Advice:
-Don't sell yourself short, your brand of retard is probably worth 50k in the US, especially if white
-Find a company with a good 401k match (use google 'company name 401k') to compare it with others, contribute what they're willing to match
-roth ira too, max to match
-maybe consider a decent whole life insurance policy once the trust kicks in if/while you're still healthy/young for further 'tax diversification' (this is what the roth ira is for too, google it stupid, it's a hedge against incoming larger tax rates that are probably coming considering all the dependents[niggers] we need to feed)
-open a vanguard funds account, buy vtsax and vsiax on dips or just when you feel like it, hold it longterm
-depending on where crypto is when your fund kicks in, i'd say your situation is comfy enough to risk 5-10k on it. ETH or LINK might still be good options at the time, but i'm no expert

common sense to most but always worth stating: if something sounds to good to be true it probably is

yeah of course it's cryptic that's the point.
You are an individual and you have an individual path to walk. NO ONE can tell you what to do or what makes sense in this world. We exist to figure that out.

Rich kids are undisturbed by the problems of life and they feel this. That's why they go to "find themselves" but they usually don't have the balls to endure the pain that involves and end up in a weird, pathetic cycle that hurts themselves and everything the touch.

Actually, my best advice would be to find a mentor. There are tons out there waiting to gobble up your type. Find someone you trust, who will fully push you. Only after you have slain a dragon or whatever bullshit you want to call it should you worry about your money. And then, it will be easy... either you will know what needs to be done or the right people will flock around you.

That is an interesting take. Usually the explanation I hear for rich kids going out to 'find themselves' was that they were rebelling against their presumably strict upbringing and had the funds to do so, but I think this point is more accurate. I do feel there is some experience I am lacking when compared to my peers and this makes me feel self-conscious, incomplete and ashamed.

While there's a wise sage in my presence, I want to pick your brain.

I'm young, poor, going into the army, and I'm very cheap and planning on saving every penny I earn from it including my 25k initial bonus, and I plan on getting my college done through it too.

What advice do you have for me? I often feel like I don't know where I'm going and that I won't be happy when I get there, and I joined the army because the only easily identifiable passion I have is to be a warrior.

Also I want to know where to invest to take care of any financial worry
