18946548 No.18946548 [Reply] [Original]

I saw an article that said bitcoin developers were working furiously on its official github repo during the quarantine. But how will any updates be implemented without a hard fork and creating another BCH/BSV shitshow situation? Are we stuck with og BTC forever?

Not all hard forks result in a split. If the update isn't contentious, then the great majority of nodes switch to the updated software on day 1, which causes the old network to be unprofitable for miners, who then switch over, which further accelerates the collapse. The old network usually dies within three days.

All hard forks are splits. Soft forks are not splits. You're thinking of a soft fork.

By split I mean that two networks continue to exist going forward, thus having the effect of splitting the original network and taking a chunk out of the original coin's price.
