I’m assuming not without a certification

I would say yes, although it depends on where you live and if you are willing/able to travel to work. Travelling construction welders make alot more than stationary fab shop ones. How much does the school cost, and how much debt will you be in if you attend. Beware. Welding is tied to new construction and oil which could dry up in this economy.

It seems like a good deal to be honest. There’s a school in LA for only around 3K, and is only 9 months top

No, there’s plenty of jobs that will teach you as part of training, that’s how I learned, also getting welder burn sucks, feels like someone held your eye open and dumped sand in it.

It's a fkd job. I did a boikermaking aka metal engineer apprenticeship. Yes there are high paying jobs. Especially in mines and oil rigs etc but the risk is high. Dudes missing fingers. Bald because of the slab spit. U literally get used to handling red hot metal bare handed its amazing what u can endure. Electrocution. Soo many hazards burns cuts. Hot hot work. Just learning to weld alone is a useful skill but wont get u a 200k job. The high end will pay 200k for a fully qual exp tradesmen. I quit. Fkn hated it. Learnt really handy skills though

Incredibly. You'll be working in the shipyards making top dollar and banging all the chicks you could dream of, while all the other men are drafted in the coming war with China. DO IT NOW!
Also, Crypt-id. Get some CID for when Tyrant takes over the world after WWIII.

An example of how stupidly dangerous it is...
There was a natural gas treatment plant where gas is brought in and treated with scent from ships andthen piped off to homes... these massive gas pipes needed modification. So we pre made the parts and brought them in site. Now we can't use most ntollls because of fire. The main gas is off but natural gas is everywhere hazing the air like mirages. Only pneumatic tools can be used as electric ones have sparks inside them. One spark and...
Anyway we have to drill some flanges.but even with the air drill the bit can spark by just not getting the drill b it straight. Shit myself as I made it spark twice and luckily did not blow the whole neighbourhood.

This
Fanuc already has robots that do this shit it’s only a matter time before they start getting cheaper

This is true. You are needed in ordnance. Myself I have modified quite a ordnance factory installations. For the making of artillery shells. Shit like this will not be replaced by robots not until we have the singularity anyway.

Don't forget about the shipyards, essential infrastructure, and military manufacturing. If he wants top dollar though, welding up the nuclear reactors.

Welding robots arent anything new, the company where I work has one since 10 years.
Industrial robots are really cheap this days, they start about 50k costs.
But you will always need welders to build specialized equipment for industrial usage.
