The volume and market hours movement suggests that very few people are buying. Most of the movement is in futures: about 69% of all a day's gain or loss is made in futures. The SPY average daily volume on green days the past four weeks is 116 million (11 days). On red days it's 111 million (9 days). The green day average is only boosted by the first two weeks; the last two weeks green day volume has been around 80 million, whereas the red days have been more or less constant. Volume has been approaching and falling under pre-Corona levels. Within the past 20 days (four weeks), we've had 5 days where markers opened higher and immediately attempted to sell off, ending the day lower than on open, of which 3 resulted in a red day.

If investors are buying, where is the volume and buying pressure? We've seen 9/20 red days this past month, with constant volume, whereas green days have shown vastly decreasing volume, to the point that the primary reason that they are green is because of futures movement. Futures have been propping up the majority of market movements, not market hours. That seems at odds with investors buying in during normal market hours, considering those movements only account for 30% of a day's gain or loss. And even more stark is the contrast between those days that start higher due to futures, and end lower due to continued selling pressure throughout the day, which accounts for 25% of all days. Yet, day trading volume is significant enough to push markets red despite starting at a +1.0% advantage?

I agree. On very low volume days, enough large institutional movement could also raise or lower prices away from their buy ins. But the same is true in reverse: if you're unwinding long positions, you would do it gradually, so as to prevent large drops in prices away from your exit point.

That said, how does that explain the constant sell volume while buy volume has been constantly decreasing? If investor sentiment is positive enough for the long term, where is the matching volume to push markets higher? The past month has been sideways movement around a 50%-60% retracement from the low. The only significant movement upward is in futures, accounting for 70% of daily movement. 25% of the time, the market hours movement lowers gains made by futures. If investors see positive long term potential, where is the corresponding continuation of the rally during market hours?

It's certainly possible. Given the pace at which selling does occur, it seems as if institutionals are attempting to unwind any remaining positions that they couldn't back in March. Whenever the pace is a little too brisk, we have convenient pre-market, futures, or after-hours movement. Comparing futures movements now vs prior to the beginning of the year reveals an incredible difference in price action and the trends by which it manifests overnight. It's fucking /pol/ levels of tin-foil hattery, but when the market hours reject futures 25% of the time, and when futures make up 70% of all market movement, there appears to be a disconnect between sentiment and market movement. That on top of fucked daily volume.

Public TA is literally "it could go anywhere" to have plausible deniability in case youre wrong.
Private TA, the stuff you share on stocktwits, is drawing five lines and rationalizing why this will go up/down when you already made up your mind.

TA is bullshit science except for basic support/resistance lines and maybe Bollinger and Fibonacci, simply because people believe in them.

Correct. The problem is that we are still "in the crash" and haven't recovered. There is plenty of money out of the markets right now. The implication being that if the recovery was expected to be long lasting and had solid fundamentals, then the volume buying into the markets would remain higher and buoy share prices until we saw organic share price appreciation again. But, we've gone sideways over the past month, with most movement occurring outside of market hours and a larger than ordinary sell volume. So, a lower buy volume with the large than ordinary sell volume seems unusual, given the context.
