So, who are the majority of the investors? It’s controlled by indices and hedge funds, right? Where do I find the data on this? How much of the volume is your average plebs

Jews. The volume of the average pleb is the line going down.

Investors are probably around 10-20% pleb but they make up like .0001% of the actual volume being traded, its the hedge funds and conglomerates that move the market

who controls the price of milk? who controls the cost of a haircut?

you're asking the wrong questions here buddy.

no it's not corrupt

my friend I think you're a good candidate for an S&P 500 fund, just invest everything in $SPY and forget about it

It's more like, what determines the exact price of a complex mega contract, one with a lot of interplaying variables, and I’m asking which variable is most significant.

And how can a pleb compete with a team of genius analysts who have developed algorithms and metrics along with tons of processing power to help make decisions

I'll answer your second question first: a pleb cannot compete with a team of genius analysts, and if you try you'll lose >50% of the time.

Now to your first question: generally the stock price reflects people's expectations for how much money the company will make in the future, so good news for the company makes the price go up, bad news makes it go down, and news can include all sorts of random stuff like shipping prices and oil pipeline saturation and weather patterns and liquidity in the bond market and fine print in 10-Ks and all sorts of other data that you're not going to be able to follow and digest before the genius analysts and their supercomputers.

This is why most people just invest in the S&P 500, often by buying the ETF $SPY.

But if you want to play the market for fun you can spread your investment out across a diverse basket of SAFE dividend stocks instead.
