We had original debate with Bagholder in 2018 if Im not mistaken, volatility is a decaying product and the reason for that is after few days of lets say 6% moves volatility is not increasing if direction is picked. Bagholder actually tested this trying to prove me wrong by opening volatility and directional short/long position in choppy markets of 2019 and end of day VIX gains were susbtantially lower despite relatively big moves bcs move of 8% then 4 then 6 then 2% in direction gives you way more than VIX increases over same time. The only time you capture better gains in VIX is initial spike and thats actually where you are supposed to short it and use funds to reenter equity
