My job in hollywood is on the skids. I was scheduled to work the cinematography for one of the new marvel capeshit movies. With this bullshit chink disease I'll be out of work for probably another year. And that's assuming the movie industry even recovers from no one going to theaters. Most shit that is still being made is animated trash that can be done from home. What the fuck am I supposed to do now, get a job at the local Albertsons? Yeah, I want to take a 70k paycut to get coofed on by retards. I can pay for my studio for a couple years but I'll have to live off of doritos and shasta cola.

What the fuck am I supposed to do now? Even if LA opens up its not like anybody will be making movies any time soon. I guess my best option is to work for a news outlet.

I posted a similar thread on here about being in the music industry and I can sum up the /biz/ response for you, save you some time

- no one on here actually understands how the arts industries function, their only understanding comes from shitty cliche portrayals of wannabee guitarists in the TV shows they watched growing up
- people on 4chan are going to tell you you're a waste of space and should have gotten a real job, learn2code, etc etc
- their actual best suggestions will be "just get a job at Amazon or Target, it's just a flu you're not at risk you pussy"

Sorry man, it's really looking bleak.

if they are still doing projects, can't you network and apply for a remote deskjob at one of the studios? Writing and answering e-mails, micro-managing shit for the projects?

Everyone is going to be suffering for the next few years, senpai. Especially in the US. My best advice would be to prepare for a major recession. Get a job, maybe two, while there are a few places hiring like Amazon that can give you immediate cash flow and then start buying necessities.

>>18681362
I don't understand every "industry", but _markets_ are extremely straightforward. At a high resolution, you simply have buyers and sellers dictating supply and demand. That's literally it. If his specialized labor isn't in demand and no one is currently paying for it, why wouldn't you tell him to pivot? Your post does nothing helpful anyway besides flame.
>wahh no one wants to pay me for my music
I'm sorry, but tough shit? There's no such things as "real jobs". Only jobs with varying degrees of demand. My best advice for you would be to pivot as well, especially if you're getting desperate. I'm coming from a place of sincerity, bro. You can't just wallow in self-pity because the market took a downturn. You need to set yourself up to take advantage of when the good times return. And they will return, whether that's months to years from now. You have to live your life normally and not be a lump on a log worrying about whether bombs are going to drop tomorrow. Don't give up, bro.

A fuckton of people here are out of work now. I think we might be seeing a complete collapse of the (non-gaming) entertainment industry. Bing Bing Wahoos are the only thing entertainment related that are thriving and will be thriving in the future.

And what about people that don't live near Amazon facilities, don't fucking want to work for Amazon, and are genuinely uninterested in working a job that will be putting them into guaranteed contact with many, many people? I'm really looking forward to the next phase, where people realize their shtick of "just get a job man stop being a whiny bitch" is completely out of touch with the reality of the situation.

I'd love to buy the supplies to start an apparel printing business but then I'm out $3000+ and god knows when anything will ship to my house. People like me and OP are in between a rock and a hard place right now and hearing the typical boomer "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" advice is totally useless.

That's great that the field you went to school for and got a degree for is hiring. Unfortunately the entertainment industry is completely closed right now and the qualifications don't exactly transfer to other jobs.

Correct, I don't value any actually mainstream films/music which is the only way you make any salary. You are the corporate equivalent of dancing for nonwhites.

You set up a false dichotomy. Part of the "field we went to school for" was an actual calculated decision weighed with pros/cons. It's not like I naturally love accounting the same way you naturally love whatever impractical major/industry you choose, and the world just happens to value my field more. You could have easily actually looked at the economic landscape and realized majoring in arts was playing with fire. It's not boomer-tier advice, if you don't respond to what the economy needs, you will be out of work or have unstable employment. When I graduated in 2016, it was obvious to everyone that arts industries were saturated to hell.

You consciously chose something obviously impractical and skated by in a boom-time, and now we are in a bust-time.

lol come on be realistic, most 18 year olds looking at what to do after high school don't sit around making calculated decisions, weighing the pros and cons. You probably got steered into a career your family/peers/teachers pointed to as being financially lucrative, which is fine, but you don't need to be a fucking conceited prick about it.

My dad was a helicopter mechanic who had me later in life and my mom is a junkie who I haven't seen since middle school. My dad showed me employment statistics of majors that you could find with any google search. He said these are the most practical - and by that point I already knew. All my classmates knew which majors were the most practical and I went to a shithole upstate NY high school. It was obvious if your head wasn't in the sand

Fuck you, senpai. I'm not giving you "boomer" advice. I'm not telling you to pull yourself up by your bootstraps. I'm telling you to stop feeling sorry for yourself and do something besides spend time on here. Literally doing anything to give you cash flow is better than nothing, and you can't count

I'm not telling you to "just get a job man stop being a whiny bitch". I'm telling you "your options are quickly becoming limited and you might need to do something dangerous, unsexy, or both to make money because your life might depend on it in the next 6 months, depending on your savings situation"
