Do you guys just budget with no expectation of a tax refund? Last year I got 6 grand back, and this year I got 14 grand back. It's so inconsistent...

If you don't have large capital gains to report each year on which you have to pay huge lump sums, then you're pretty much a subhuman.

The company I work for takes it out of my paycheck... how do I adjust it correctly? How do you guys estimate? Yes I am a brainlet.

the company should get your correct tax details from the IRS or whatever country you are from. If they are not doing this, either the payroll department doesn't know what they're doing or your income is coming from multiple sources so they put you on a tax bracket with no tax-free threshold to offset your primary income.

To resolve this the simplest solution would probably be to contact the IRS directly to get them to send your correct tax details to the company you work for so they can apply it to your salary. Unless you have more than one income or you do not work full-time you should not be getting tax refunds

It's just one income. My taxes are pretty simple since I'm just one income and some investments. I do have a mortgage which I think I get some deductions on.

Thank you! I will talk to HR and see how to get the correct details from the IRS.
