you try to get enough profit with half your position so that you can at least move your stop loss up to break even. as long as your system can achieve that you get to be comfy as you watch how far your other half goes. i like using a trailing stop on the other half because then it manages it automatically and i can just watch or do other shit instead of constantly moving it up manually. i've tried 0.5x, 1x, 1.5x, and 2x the ATR and 1.5x seems to be the comfiest so far. volatility-based stops are nice.
