Just ordered 3x dragons and x4 unicorns from silver-to-go

https://www.silver-to-go.com/en/

Everyone here in US is out of stock.
Found a single place that has 1 dragon in hard plastic case for like $90 (2oz of silver).

These guys had them for ~$50 a pop.

I found out why they still had stock. They IP region banned sales to US for "muh security".
I had to get a VPN and make it look like i was in germany.

Then the my bank took a shit when it saw a foreign transaction to a german company coming FROM germany.

Had to wait in COVID 19 phone hell to clear transaction and remove the duplicate repeat attempts (at $500 each) that i made thinking that it would go through after hitting verify on the suspicious transaction alert email.

These are nearly impossible to find in US.

I also got a display case.

Going to make 3x sets of the 10 coins an give one of the unicorns to nieces who are into s

i think its too early to say, mines arent coming back on any time soon so supply of physical metal to make bullion isnt coming back. Prices are staying high while market isn't stable. If things start to cool down and return to normal in a month than i could see prices go down, but if things stay the same or get worse, say a resurgence in the virus in china or destabilization due to what ever the hells happening in NK or south America than prices will only continue to climb for both gold and silver.

I think the longer you wait the smaller the odds. Some days it gets lower but a lot of people expect it to gradually or rapidly go up over time. I don't think there will be a significant dip anymore. Earlier this week it dropped a bit and before that, half March significant dip. I think that was the "corona dip" for silver. also a really cheap way to clean junk silver you dont care about without scratching it i ve found is a half table spoon of lemon juice to a cup of water. apply this to the silver for a few moments than remove and rinse with water. it will remove most tarnish, but for the major corrosion i would go with an industrial cleaner.

They could but if you minimize the amount of fresh air they're exposed to (don't be constantly opening and closing the containers as that'll swap out the air), they shouldn't tarnish. I guess if you're super paranoid and have the equipment, you could put them in containers and blow something like pure nitrogen into the containers before closing them.

For what it's worth, I have some American Silver Eagles that I took out of the plastic container to look at and they haven't tarnished in the ~10 years I've had them. They look as pristine as the year they were minted. On the other hand, I have a silver coin from Fiji that has blackened near an edge. The Fiji coin is in one of those polypropylene flip holders so it's exposed to more moving air so that could be a cause. It could also be that top tier mints such as the US Mint somehow use higher quality planchets or something that better resist tarnishing.

I believe another way to do it is having a piece of aluminum foil lining the bottom of a bowl. Fill the bowl with water and put in a tablespoon or so of salt. Put the tarnished coin into the salt water and let it touch the aluminum. The tarnish is removed.

Note, though, that an infinitessimally small amount of silver is lost this way (silver ions in the saltwater solution).

i am pretty sure it has a lot to do with contamination from the different types of plastics used. some type of oils or solvents added on the plastic before its used in packaging that partially causes the different levels of corrosion. I have two different sets of silver leafs from the Canadian mint, two years apart where they changed packaging, and the later set have a a rainbow patina while the other set doesnt. The only difference is packaging.

I believe the substance that really causes silver to tarnish is sulfur. There is typically some small quantity of sulfur in the air. If you use the trick I mentioned on removing tarnish with water, salt, and aluminum, the reaction unbinds the sulfur from the silver and you'll smell sulfur (a rotten egg-ish odor) as the chemicals react.

Is this really true? Thanks to the internet it’s pretty easy to check how much any given coin is worth at any time. If you buy something for X price chances are you can sell it for at least that same price in the future, if not more unless it’s some weird celebrity thing where you buy a coin with some guys face on it and 10 years later it comes out he’s a kiddy fiddler and no one will buy or something.

I have quite a bit of experience in various collectibles and have observed other collectibles markets. In addition to that, I have, in my adult life, participated in three major financial bubbles so I think I have a reasonably good knowledge of the nature of collectibles.

If it's really so easy to be successful buying collectibles, why did some people sell their very valuable Nintendo Entertainment System cartridges before really cashing in? It took a certain knowledge and foresight to buy or hold onto certain games before they became worth many multiples of their original prices. Likewise, there are some games that are worth about the same as what they cost when they were new.

Beanie Babies were a collectible at one point and maybe they still are. However, anyone buying Beanie Babies in the late 1990s probably lost a lot of money if he held until today.

Some decades ago, certain St. Gaudens double eagles were worth quite a bit of money because it was believed that most were destroyed when FDR passed the executive order that prohibited citizens from owning gold except for jewelry and numismatic coins. When a very large stash of pristine coins were found in Swiss vaults (very wealthy people who knew of the coming confiscation of gold shipped tremendous quantities of gold out of the US to Switzerland before the US government was able to seize it), the prices of many coins crashed.

You have to know a fair amount to profit in the field of numismatics, especially modern coins designed specifically for the collector market; i.e., the coins are never meant for circulation. If you buy a collectible coin made of a precious metal, it's entirely possible that its going price decades from now will be the melt value. See the Commemorative Arts medallions from the US Mint that were released in the 1980s. No one wants them except for the melt price.

Handle the coins with cotton or latex gloves, if you handle with bare skin, wash gently with warm soapy water and pat dry (no abrasives or polish, the last thing you want to do is ruin the lustre). Should I buy ten batbois in the mint tube or in capsules?
In the mint tubes. You can buy the plastic capsules later, and this way you can convert your stack to both.

The 1964-dated half-dollar was the last 90% coin, and that says a lot.
I believe the melt value exceeded -- at least it was very near -- the face value in 1965. This caused intensive hoarding, and Kennedies were impossible to find. The coins *stopped working as currency*, so the silver was eliminated in most coins--as a token, for a while some 40% silver halves were issued.
Changing the coin size would make them unusable in vending machines. The 40 percenters were a good compromise; but they were dropped too.

Some foreign government coins are fine. American junk silver is quite alright everywhere. To a lesser degree, old silver Swiss francs are also good, specially in Europe. Old silver coins from your own country are also OK; there is no reason for an Italian to ditch 500 lire coins, or a Brazilian to ignore 2000 réis imperial silver.
Always check the law about holding old coins from your country, though. The old circulating American silver coins are still legal tender, and I believe you can go through customs with them without issues. The same is *not* true for the old Swiss francs, that were demonetized. In most countries--specially those where the money changed name--are collectibles, and have a different treatment under local law.

Only you can make that decision. Do you really like the collectible things you have? Are you in a position where you might have to move in the future, which would make lugging those things around painful and subject them to risk of damage or loss. If you were to sell them right now, what would be the compounded rate of return for holding them? What do you think is going to happen to the collectibility in the future? What is the economic well-being of collectors going to be like in the future?

Those are the questions you have to accurately answer to know whether now is the right time to sell or not.

I think the comic books probably should have been sold about three years ago when the Marvel films were hitting their crescendo with Avengers. As it is right now, if you can get a good price, I would recommend selling everything. The comic book industry has been destroyed with all the gimmicks and terrible storylines. I suspect the kinds of people who have an interest in old comic books currently still have their jobs and thus the money to buy old books. That may not be true in the future. Note that the counterargument to this is that because the comic book industry has been destroyed, a vintage, back issue market will arise. I wouldn't count on it, though, and it could take a long time for such a market to develop.

I would say that is especially true of Star Wars figures. At least with comic books, you can read them and enjoy them. Sell any Star Wars collectibles while you still can. I don't follow Star Wars collectibles but, personally, I think the time to sell was a few years ago after The Force Awakens came out. If you really like what you have and think they're cool, keep them. But if you're hanging onto them mostly to make money, it's time to bail.

A couple things.

1) The economy is on hold. We won't see the long-term effects until we're back in full-swing and the $6 trillion cash injection is realized.

2) Paper and physical are separating. That's why you see a spot price that's lower than you'd expect but premiums higher than you've ever seen before. Paper gold is trading closer to spot, but if you want delivery of physical - the real deal - you're paying much more for it.

3) Oil is down, and not because of COVID-19 - because of production quarrels between Russia and Saudi Arabia. That means the US petro-dollar is deflating independently of COVID-19 causes.

There may be more subtle causes, but this is what I've gathered.

There are pros and cons for both. Coins are usually easier to sell and will go for a bit more of a premium over a bar due to recognition. You even have the chance of buying a coin with some history behind it that we may not know of yet (like how the bat coins can either warrant a large premium in the future or little depending) Bars are cheaper to buy per oz due to it just being a hunk of silver, but may be harder to sell and have little to no chance of warranting a premium over spot.

At the end of the day, yes it's subjective speculation. If everyone agreed tomorrow that there's nothing special about a 1996 Silver Eagle compared to 1oz of straight shot, then sure. But that's not reality. The reality is limited mintages make people pay a premium so until people stop paying it it's still a sound investment.

Also if you really want to get at home "pay dirt", go down to your local home hard ware or home and garden shop, and look at their play sand selection. look at the label for where it was mined. Hilariously a lot of kids play sand and home construction sand comes from a massive set of gravel pits in California, they dont sluice the sand that comes out of their shaker plants. Some guys have gotten a quarter of a gram of gold, even small flakes, from those $25 bags of sand. You wont make money on it, but its something to do during the winter for shits and giggles.

No. Before we de-pegged from the Gold Standard you could walk into the US Treasury and demand a silver dollar for your paper certificate, but it was never the bank's responsibility nor LCS's responsibility to exchange paper for silver.

The US Notes cannot be redeemed for silver or gold and never could, it's just that it took the power of printing money from The Federal Reserve and gave it (back) to the US Treasury.

most major banks or suppliers will do an a secured shipping method for an order on that scale, they will often include insurance as well when its that big to cover their own asses if anything goes wrong.

As for storage, a personal vault is a good choice, looks fucking lit when its full up all scrooge mc duck style and are actually fairly easy to get a contractor to build.

As for me, what actual bullion I have is either buried.... in an undisclosed location.... or stored in an insured bank safety deposit box for my company.

OK this is going to be a bit hard to explain.

PLACER:
>look in river banks for large round river stones and course angular gravels all compacted together, best is when its also oxidized (ie rusty).
>i ve found also that if this compacted course material is either sitting on bedrock or a thick clay layer, you will get very good gold
>look for surface bedrock that has either recently been in the major flow of the river or stream, or is currently in the stream its self. your looking again for where large river stones and the bedrock meet, best is when the bedrock is angular or very jointed / fractured with a contact on harder rock. Gold cant get past this contact point.

Here is a bit of a diagram to help understand what I am talking about. I ll post others if you want.

A simple rule is, gold is heavy, it likes to be where it cant move, or where other heavy things are located in a stream.

All hat and no cattle. Almost all people who wear a lot of flashy gold jewelry are wearing nothing but worthless, gold-colored jewelry. They are not wearing anything that has any substantial value when melted down. It's a form of peacocking.

A well-educated person with a fair amount of wealth would do well to hide how wealthy he is for as long as possible. Anonymity will protect this kind of person from kidnapping for ransom and gold diggers.

Many of the wealthiest people in the country have their wealth in a very valuable business that they own a substantial stake in and/or control. That's about as good as gold, so to speak, because no matter what the money is, they'll get paid and either keep or increase their purchasing power. For well off people who actually earned their money but lacking the ability to control a large corporation (which typically have monopoly characteristics), you'd better believe a fair number of them have some gold to protect their purchasing power. The gold they possess will be of far higher fineness (at least 22 karat, 0.9167 fine) than the junk you see poor people showing off.

Gold is dense, very dense. In fact, a first-glance way to spot a fake gold coin/bar is if it's TOO big (to make up for the less dense fake metal interior).

That is interesting to know about gold but I should have specific, it was their silver stacker 10 oz bar. Looks smaller compared to other 10 oz bars I have seen but I guess they are thinner so they can be wider.

Just for funsies, I did some quick number crunching on gold's density. If you had a cube of pure gold where each edge is one foot in length, that cube would weigh 1,202 pounds. In metric terms, a cube of pure gold with ~30 centimeter edges would have a mass of ~546 kilograms. The price of that cube, at approximately $1,700 per troy ounce of gold, would be about $30,000,000.

As for silver, I have some 5 ounce silver bars from APMEX. They are 2.9" x 1.6" x 0.4". You can measure your silver bar and weigh it and see if it matches up with the density of silver, which is 10.49 g/cm^3

Update: I can buy as much gold as I want in bar form (no coins at all) and I can't get any silver coins and silver bars I need to wait for July. lol everything is just fine. Silver is conman and worthless.

a good example of this is the giant bullet shaped ingots a lot of mines would make. They did it that way so that if someone tried to steel one, it would be an absolute pain in the ass to do so. I ll try and find the photos of some in my archive.

I run into bears all the time, there usually no threat so long as your not a total idiot and threaten them or their young. Wolves are not a problem either, if they detect humans they usually leave, they want nothing to do with you. Mountain lions are more of a threat. They are smart, cocky, and your usually encroaching on their territory. I had one stock me for 3 hours and I never knew about it until I saw it following me.

reminder that the oxidized layer on silver coins is a natural protective coating. by stripping it off you are removing silver particles only for the metal underneath to oxidize again. if you let it be, then you still have the same amount of silver in your coin as before

Eep. Well, I guess I'll never take a vacation to try to dig or pan for gold as interesting as that seems. I'm not an experienced enough outdoorsman to know when I'm being stalked or when I might be intruding into a predator's territory. I still remember some years ago a message board I used to follow and one of the regulars suddenly stopped posting without warning. She reappeared months later and said that her absence was due to her being hospitalized after being attacked by a bear while jogging.
