Do NEETS qualify for CERB? I made over $5K in 2019 but I have been living off savings since. I was looking for a job when this shit started, does that mean I qualify? I have the job listing websites to prove it if they come asking, but are they really going to try and claw back money from every poo, chink, and chug who applied? Anyone know what the penalties would be if they later on deem you ineligible?

As long you have a record of employment, and have submitted taxes for 2019 then you'll get it. When I signed up for mine I had my ROE submitted by my employer online so everything was easy. Signing up for EI is more difficult to do.

I'm sure I'll get it, however I'm afraid of them later trying to get it back.

From what I'm to understand, we'll eventually have to pay tax on it.

Don’t you have to provide evidence that you lost employment specifically due to COVID?

Yes, I'm aware that it counts as income. However my concern is that since I am a NEET and unemployed at the time of applying, they will deem me ineligible. (Despite the fact I've been looking for a job since January) Any thoughts? Some of my other NEET friends are risking it but Im not so sure.

Not to apply, they're handing it out to everyone who applies. But even if they do how many millions of people in Canada are gonna apply simply to chance not having to pay it back, and how is the CRA gonna deal with such a backlog of potential fraudsters? IMO it's more likely they just write it all off when this is over with.

Just apply and worst case you gotta pay it back in like a decade. You really think they're gonna audit 10 to 20 million people in any conceivable time?
Might as well get the bag before this place turns into Venezuela

That's what I'm starting to think. Any idea what the penalties might be tho? An interest free $8000 loan is almost appreciated ya feel?

You should still get it. As long as you worked in 2019 and have the employment record either online in your service Canada account or a paper record then you're good to go. Now if someone already signed up for EI before the liberals announced the CERB might not get the 2k since they already have benefits coming in.
TL; DR just sign up wait a few days see what happens it can't hurt. If you're really wondering check your Service Canada account.

the only thing I could see is that you have to pay it back if you're not eligible. Worst worst case just invent some job you did self employed like painting or babysitting or something on the miniscule chance you would get audited and be ready to pay income tax on your fake earnings which would be less than what you would have made off CERB/less than the minimum tax bracket. But the odds of that happening are so small, it's up to you honestly. It's still tax fraud and I don't know how "by the book" or not you are. Good luck

Penalties would be you pay back the money fraudulently given to you. Maybe a shitty interest rate on top.
