Lads, was Toguro inspired by the Bogdanoffs?

Toguro was an interesting character, he really pulled the strings behind the scenes for the entire Dark Tournament

Based, there are some similarities. Toguro was pretty badass, but ended up being a simp for Genkai. Pic related is the real YuYu Hakusho Chad.

It gets tricky with interdimensional travel and time loops but, yes.

And one could also say that the Bogdanoffs were inspired by Toguro.

Toguro is one of very few fictional characters to ever come across as truly threatening to me. The way that he just beat the fucking shit out of Yusuke was insane even by shounen standards.

Should I buy the Yuyu Hakusho manga or wbuy the blu-rays? I remember this show on Toonami along with DBZ and it was based as fuck. I just got caught up with Jojo and I'm looking for something else.

Honestly Yu Yu manga and the anime have a lot of differences, both are top shelf stuff though. There's a lot of little changes or additions to the anime during the main plot but the biggest difference is there's like 20 chapters at the very beginning of the series and 10 chapters at the very end that weren't adapted

I just recently watched Yuyu after being in a similar position and honestly it might be nostalgia talking but I really enjoyed the anime and it still holds up. I haven't read the manga so I can't give a recommendation on that.

I stopped watching after the Dark Tournament. What have I missed? Should I go back and watch it?

If you like yu yu, the author wrote another manga called Hunter x Hunter. What a masterpiece that was. The brilliant social commentary, the trials and tribulations, the conniving, the ulterior motives. I haven't seen or read something with so much depth, so much nuance, so much to say in comic form. A brilliant work that stands among some of the literary greats. Honestly I am surprised public schools don't include Hunter x Hunter in their cirriculum

The next arc is pretty neat, probably not as good as the Toguro/Genkai/Yusuke triangle but the apocalyptic atmosphere throughout the arc is really fun
