Shot in the dark is: I wish I could say. One thing an anon pointed out in another thread is that the increases in the market tend to fade with each week. Meaning that the claims reports could wind up pushing it to negative. But this assumes that the claims are reflected in market sentiment. I assume there is no clear correlation and expect a crabby day since there's really nothing really interesting coming down the pipe.

But then for all I know we could get news of a wave of foreclosures which would set off panic selling.

Something insulated from U.S. Market chaos generally helps. I'm in on MUFG for their upside potential after this all ends. SNAP fitbit, Gopro etc. USO is about to do a reverse stock split which will increase shares but have no effect on your total investment unless if oil goes back up after the crisis ends. The big thing right now is trying to gauge whether or not USOs fund will survive the coronavirus pandemic or not. A number of small companies have already folded and declared bankruptcy.

I do long term investment and a few commodities. Actually what I've been seeing in the commodity market leads me to believe there is a possibility for some short term profits in staples such as tomatoes and peppers and the likes. So I think I'll try my hand at selling some produce over the summer. See if I net much profit. If I do I'll save a bit to reinvest for the next season, and the rest I'll dump into my long term investments so I can make even more money passively.

While the demand shock to come, with respect to lower discretionary spending and consumer electronics purchases, will be felt over the next few quarters, such semi companies are poised to come out of the downturn well.

That's an astute question but the answer is a little complicated. There's a good chance USO will just shut down and get liquidated if the oil situation doesn't improve. There's also the chance that the line just keeps going down and USO is worth 1% of what it's worth now in 6 months meaning it'll have to move up like 100x just to break even. It could reverse split to make it look better but you'll still get utterly obliterated account wise.
Don't get me wrong, I love big payoff plays but if I were you I would get out of commodities and start looking at some of the leveraged index/sector ETFs like TQQQ or SOXL. Your return will still be legendary in the long run and the chances of losing everything will be a million percent less

It's a market tactic called dumping. With backing from someone with deep pockets (usually a government), you temporarily dump cheap product so competitors go under and you pick up market share. Then raise the price so you bank on monopoly/oligopoly profits.

This has gone on forever in different markets but the closest analogy is probably what happened to steel. When people started dumping steel, the steel industry of the dumped-into markets either went away or became quasi-nationalized.

Private entities can sometimes fight dumping by buying cheap product and reselling it in expensive markets but I don't know how well that strategy would work in oil.
