America has never had a democracy. If our exclude the fact that large portions of it's population have been excluded from the eleitoral processo due to race, Irish and southern European at first ,negroes and japs later for example, and if you now choose to ignore gerrymandering and voter supression laws all that is left is an oligarchy and plutocracy owned and managed by the elites through lobbying.

The thing is this fenomenon is visible all over the western world .

Difference in investment strategy.

China invested from the bottom up as in investing in labor and manufacturing which allowed uneducated people to earn money. Those uneducated people will use that money to start their own small businesses and invest in their children's education. Their children will in turn invest further into manufacturing and R&D so on and so forth, allowing the country to move up on the value chain, eventually reaching near parity with the West.

India, on the other hand, did the exact opposite. They invested in IITs which is India's equivalent of the Ivy Leagues and UC. This created a small group of very educated people, but that small group now had the option of leaving India. This results in a lot of Indian CEOs of American companies while the rest of India is almost stagnant.

If you want something done right by a chinaman, you need to give him a gift, introduce him or do something for him.

"You get what you pay for" is an English saying that is equivalent to the Chinese one; "一分錢一分貨"
Which when translated directly is "one dime of money, one dime of goods".
It's saying that even if you can force the other party to accept your demand in regards to price, what you'll ultimately get is what you pay for, because the other party will not operate at a loss and will make up that difference somewhere.
Pay cheap prices, get cheap shit. This shouldn't come as a surprise to anybody, but you still get people like my uncle who bought a pair of $10 binoculars (new), I can only assume expecting it is something that belongs anywhere near your eyes.
