what I was really going was buying calls and puts is gambling unless you're doing sort of a hedging strategy, or selling premium. I like the idea of selling premium and selling puts to get assigned if you're lucky. But it's all gambling, and I've done well in the past by buying cheapie KO calls and PEP calls on the way down.

It was obvious since January that the virus was going to come here as well and hit hard. Yet the market chugged along happily. Then suddenly, towards the end of February it started falling quickly.
Should I understand this as the markets suddenly deciding in February and March to price in all the problems with a pandemic that was obvious in January? If so, then what's to say the market won't suddenly decide next Tuesday to price in the disastrous unemployment numbers we have been seeing for weeks? In the US the state and federal governments have run the lottery for as long as I can remember. It’s considered a legal form of gambling so it’s allowed even in states where casinos are not allowed, because it’s all going towards raising government revenue. Seems the market expected something like that was possible as it was doing the initial dump, but there was still a lot of scared money in there waiting to bail.

There has been only few instances where us oil has not been reflected in the SP500 price and those have been momentary. You are basically betting on oil going up with SP500 and at the same time oil going down with oil short. Also, even if oil is going down more this week, it's extremely sensitive to huge rebounds after tanking nearly 20%. Short sp500 and long oil is much safer with a little bit of cross correlation hedge.

Is it too early to buy non covid pharma/biotech?
They still trade at a good discount but I am worried that trials read out or start later due to covid and that their movement might be overly influenced by peers like GILD and MRNA.
At the same time like tech might be the normie safe haven and therefore just keep pumping without another dip anytime soon...
