The consensus model works which is something very few projects have achieved. Now they've switched to 1) building the infrastructure so people can build on it more easily, and 2) making signature projects (e.g. fantom.finance) to both showcase Fantom and get a ton of users.

In short, it's a solid project.

The first mentioned TPS by the scammy original Korean team was never true. Andre called them out publicly for that in an interview. Most of that team is gone. The current CTO is the guy who published many of the research papers with Andre on the consensus model.

The main thing limiting the TPS right now is the EVM, not the consensus method, but choosing the EVM was a matter of practicality since they are building a DeFi platform and they want to get developers who are already familiar with the EVM. I'm not sure if they will succeed in making a faster version of the EVM but they understand it well (for example this paper is by Fantom's academic collaborators: https://arxiv.org/pdf/1910.11143.pdf).).

Most people here don't do any research or are fudder, Fantom can atteign between 40k to 300k transaction with a 0.7 finality with the current EVM (meaning compatible with ethereum solidity). A smart city will need MILLIONS of tps. FTM do it by creating several mainnets for each use (trafic, water ,ect) and linking them together, praticly having a illimited number of tps

Yeah. The modular consensus (multiple mainnets able to be secured by a single token, the FTM token) gives FTM some of the best tokenomics, but they haven't explained it clearly enough for people to get what's going on.
