the us has two options
let oil be traded freely and at international market set prices
this results in all their domestic shale oil production being shuttered leaving the us at the merci of hostile foreign nations for a strategic resource
or the us nationalizes the oil market, bans all speculative trading and puts in a price floor for domestic oil that makes shale profitable
use own production and labor to supply strategic resource

I'm all about the free market. Let US Oil shut down and let Saudi Arabia deplete their reserves taking out Russia and Iran. Rest of world shuts down domestic oil production in response. Cheap energy for decades.

Iran and Russia will eventually provoke a major Mid East war in retaliation. Easy peasy knocking out Saudi Oil exports ENTIRELY. 10M bpd goes offline instantaneously. $300+/barrel overnight.

US reopens shale oil in 6 weeks (lowest startup costs and time on planet earth). Russian and Venezuelan (lol) oil capacity takes at least a year to reopen mothball facilities and pipelines. US gets stupid rich in meantime.
