LINK is currently only on ETH, but can be made on other networks, making it not dependant on only one network. ETH is not guaranteed victory. LINK isn't either, but its like putting your eggs in multiple baskets.

Eth is just one of many blockchains, including private corporate blockchains that don't let in neckbeards, that LINK will operate with. Eth is peripheral to link, not the other way around.
