furniture designer here. Walnut is expensive. If that’s solid and not veneered, maybe 1.25 inches thick and milled from 6/4 stock, the wood alone is around 300 dollars itself. Add in hardware of decent quality and the cost of aluminum (even just extruded stock) and it can add up.

Go to your local hardwear store and buy a laminated wood panel some screws and some legs. Have them cut it to your desired size and screw the legs on. You now have a hardwood desk for $100-150.

It's not a solid sawn top. Cheap shit veneer, which makes it $70-100 of the total cost.

The desk is overpriced as fuck unless it has some very quiet, smooth double motors.

I looked at these types of desks and you can assemble your own by buying the Gook legs and motors as a kit and mounting a REAL hardwood top on them for less than $400.

My only question is, in all the videos the people connect the desk legs. They buy all these smaller faggy parts to connect the legs in complicated ways. Do I have to do that? What does that even do, stabilize it better? I just want a no nonsense desk. Buying those extra prices adds like a hundred dollars. It's the little details that go a long way. I bought a desk for $100 but it has sharp edges, non-sturdy support, almost nothing nailed together so it could fall apart in a moving van, etc etc. Expensive desks have a quality build and nice features like the height adjustment on that one, plus either really easy assembly or even they just fold out no assembly required.
