Smart Sand, Inc. (SND) looks like it could be an interesting investment. As the name suggests, they supply sand to fracking companies. They are currently trading at a very low price compared to historical prices. I also saw that Morningstar just last month had dropped analyst coverage on them "due to low client interest," which I take to be a bullish sign. Debt looks relatively low at first glance. On the other hand, sand does sound like a competitive industry, so we ought to due research on the industry before making any investment decisions.

We know that it's a disease that kills people. Look at the confirmed cases. This is very simple. The deaths are meaningless. The virus kills a certain % of people. That's what it does.So look at the confirmed case count, which has hit plateau. Maybe it'll go up, I don't know. But that is the only thing to watch. New deaths! New deaths! >>18410236Yes but when earnings reports start coming out, when investment firms can't justify the numbers, when the logical reason to be bearish overwhelms the emotional reason to be bullish we'll see what happens. We are in the euphoric stage of narrowly avoiding a car accident. Good news on virus numbers. But you can't have this economic situation without a reckoning, and no it hasn't been priced in. The 10 year bull rally was over inflated. Too much greed. >>18410447Consider an investor subject to the 20% U.S. dividend-tax rate, who buys the Zurich-listed shares of, say, Switzerland’s Nestlé. The Swiss dividend withholding-tax rate is 35%, so when the investor is paid $1,000 in dividends, $350 is withheld. But Switzerland separately has a tax treaty with the U.S. that lowers the dividend tax withholding to 15%. Yet it will withhold the treaty rate only if the investor’s wealth managers or accountants have applied for it in advance of receiving their dividends. Upshot: A 35% statutory dividend tax is withheld by the Swiss, but it’s usually only the 15% treaty rate that is reclaimed on U.S. tax returns.
>>18410403This is actually a really basic concept but you have to take yourself out of the contemporary context. The average rate of productivity growth remains relatively steady throughout history. This means economic growth slowly goes up, it doesn't shoot up or down over a few years, and if it does it corrects for itself over time. That being said, the stock market had shot up too fast. Decade bull market. If you look at the stock market since it's beginning, with or without a pandemic, this fall was going to happen. Don't believe me, just look at the graphs, it's history. The stock market oscillates both on a micro and macro level. On a micro level, obviously it's going to go up and down whether it is bullish or bearish (though bullish ultimately wins). On a macro level it's the same way, it goes up and due to fundamental human behavior it bites off more than it can chew (greed), and oscillates in a series of overreactions and corrections. TLDR: Stocks don't travel in a straight line, they move up and down via the day and the decade.

It's a race to the bottom around the world.2. Americans are net debtors. Their mortgages and credit card debt will be debased. So there will not be a public reaction.

The indices sharply drop, then sharply rise, and then gradually deflate to even more dramatic depths over the span of a few months. This is how it's been in every recession.

For some reason a lot of the talking heads on tv started to ramble yesterday how the gooberment overreacted and how the corona epidemic isn't as bad as it seems, which leads me to believe that they are expecting a huge dump next week and are trying to do damage control before it starts. There's going to be a lot of bulls standing on ledges starting monday.
>>18412322>percentage wiseYou don't just get to shave 30% off of the most hyper-inflated bull market in American history and call it a day. That 30% was all smoke — based upon no valuation and no fundamentals whatsoever. Now the market not only has to go back to fundamentals, but go further down to meet the reality of shrinking fundamentals, and potentially nasty macro events like mass bankruptcies of small businesses.

Does anyone actually see this as anything other than a fakeout? How can the market possibly be anything other than a bear market going forward? The logistical effects of this shutdown are catastrophic for the economy and there's no end in sight for it. I don't want to say that we're going to see an epic crash but how can you possibly justify an uptrend longterm? I guess the answer is that there is no logic to this, huh?

>>18412795yes of course, believe that hanz, if only they had shut down everything that would solve it.Shutting down the economy doesn't actually solve the problem and just creates many bigger problems. Intelligent actions like limiting big gatherings, mask usage, testing, and telling at-risk groups to take precautions is the best strategy. The problem with lock down is you don't change the ground state except creating immense economic hardship that will kill more people.
Coronameme is over.
>>18412816It's been 3+ weeks since lock down in many EU countries and death rates are not that impacted compared to the economic cost.At some point you have to use your brain and see that shutting down the economy for 6+ months is not sustainable or competitive. Think of how much GDP USA is losing via 1 month of shut down and it's competitiveness in the world afterwards. For a small % difference in lives lost/saved that is probably lower than that lost via less cancer/disease screenings, higher stress, and economic hardships. The biggest risk you can take is a total shut down like this even if it seems like the safest response.
What happens on Monday?
>>18412816there was no gatherings limits, no mask usage, no testing in sweden, people are retarded and keep going to the super market in masses as if nothing happens, they go to restaurants, they dont take it seriously because there is a sheep mentality that if the government said its ok no need to think it through
