You are forgetting something.
Lets assume socialism is half-comunism, for the sake of the argument.
In comunism, you can't stand out.
In capitalism, you can go exponentialy up, but so can your competition.
In socialism, you need very little to stand out, since most people live traditionaly/poorly.

Basically it's 50% harder to make it big in socialism, but it's 90% easier to make it relatively "big"
