That spread seems fine. As far as when to do it, volatility is still so crazy high that it's difficult to know when and where to punch in. Go for DCA (dollar cost averaging) by purchasing shares in smaller bunches in the firms you decide to go with but over time. Say, once a month, buy 10 shares of X for 5 months. Then if you also pick across a wide array of industries that will average risk over the market in addition to time. Airlines and oil look like steals but its going to take a while for them to recover. Utilities will likely recover almost instantaneously (oil being a dumpster fire exception).

Buy into that when progress is made on an infrastructure program. It seems like its being delayed to post corona-4 stim bill.
Also with that, weight towards american firms. National bills like that always go for American made clauses.

I would honestly just put half of it in some value companies like MA, V, NVDA, AMZN, BRK or so
And the rest in some dividend ETF. Whatever you want here really. From Aristocrats to QYLD you have many options.

Each time you have a 1k$ saved up invest half in a divvy ETF and half in a new good company. Maybe some AAPL here or some LMT. Whatever you want.

That would be my advice for a hands off, autopilot approach.

Oil has both decreased demand from the supply AND a price war between Saudi Arabia, Russia, and US shale. So it is a mix of both economics and politics which makes any good outcome dependent on both.
It is by far the riskiest venture out there so you better do a lot of homework on it. And you should also expect any money in on oil to be lost. It really is close to gambling at this point. Yes, it will go up at some point. But there are going to be firms that just don't survive this entirely and the recovery may be years out from previous prices.

when do you think the lockdown in the US will be over by? i've been hearing rumors that my boss is gonna want me back by May but that just seems unreal considering all i've heard about the coronavirus from here and other financial news sources. idk how we're supposed to leave lockdown when we still don't have a vaccine or at least a strong antiviral treatment for it. i see it as indefinite lockdown until we get one of those things, or at least something along those lines (a cure or at least a powerful treatment).

MINIMUM i figure maybe if we produce a fuckload of tests that we can distribute to literally every American, *maybe* we can just quarantine the ones who test positive and the rest go back to work. but as we've seen by so many people still going to parks and beaches and spring break and other shit, you get a few assholes who go outside even when sick and spread it and the whole thing starts again, it would rely on trusting 330 million people and fuck that shit

>Buy a tech or a general SP500 ETF
I generally do not like this approach because I prefer to buy value and growth stocks by myself desu. I just want MSFT, BRK and AMZN, not KHC and Sears mixed into that package.
But if someone does know absolutely nothing about the stock market you are right of course.

>buy stocks of high dividend companies
Thats more dangerous if you have no idea. Many companies have high dividends because they have nothing else to prop up their stock price.
For a complete beginner it is more advisable to pick an ETF here to avoid stepping in a divvy trap company.

At least thats my opinion.

>With your approach hed be less diversified in the stock part
These big companies are already so diversified that you pretty much buy three whole industries if you buy AMZN. You buy online delivery, cloud computing, AI, consumer electronics, etc.
And BRK is practically an ETF in itself. Just better.

Just my two Cents. I do not think it matters too much desu.

Those kinds of ETFs minimize risk in so many different kinds of ways that you effectively are moved primarily by how the entire market it moving anyway. It's why the returns are so small compared to options or day trading. You get to just ride the overall market which, because of inflation, is typically always going to increase over time anyway.
I'd argue there are better ways to "ride the bull" but near-zero maintenance ETFs like Vanguard are pretty good, maybe not perfect, for retirement accounts.

We don’t know how many companies are going to cut their divvies or go bankrupt.

Invest in companies that will make it through this. Companies with lots of cash and low debt.

MSFT and JNJ are at the top of that list.
AAPL and BRKB are pretty high up there. LMT, KO, PEP as well.

NVDA is more of a “gamble” but I bought last week because the risk:reward is still promising, and it’s not like they’ll go bankrupt. COST as well I think will be a winner when all is said and done.

I want to start playing around with the stock market, but since I'm cucknadian, it looks like my options are:
- Go boomer long and forget about it, rebalancing once a year tops
- Trade ETFs
- Trade only cucknadian stocks
My experience, beside a few mock sessions, is crypto only. I know how to do the research and I know enough about TA to ignore it. I learned I don't like day trading, but I'm comfortable swing trading on week-long or longer intervals.
I have 50k monopoly money to put into this. Which of the above options seem like the better choice? The CAD is currently doing fuckawful compared to the USD so this could incur an overhead when investing in american stuff if it recovers at the end of the wuhan frenzy, though evidently it will not recover anywhere near as much as most stocks should.

With the DAX its about picking some good companies, not the whole index. I live in Germany and most of these companies are just trash tier.
If I had to pick one out of the DAX30 it would be MTU Aero. And then SAP. Wirecard for a random chance at growth.

Not saying it wont all rebound, but Id say investing in US stocks/markets/ETFs is better than investing in the DAX. Especially since we have a tax agreement with the US and do not pay extra for US divvies.

I don’t think anyone in Washington has actual political beliefs. They’re all in on a big game where they compete with eachother but agree to some basic rules of keeping the bullshit two-party system in place and making sure they fuck over everyone who isn’t a part of their special interests.

Even if they totally stop production, then will be backlogged for months and you need a place to store all that shit, so why not invest in the containers? Tankers are already booking their ships for the year. They are making money to just fucking sit there and hold oil. It's free money to them. Can cruisers be converted into tankers? that my other question. Maybe they can be bought cheap and you can just pile barrels into them.

Situational shit. When kids grow up next to noisy things like highways and airports they preform less well in school, and studies have been done that show the same kids improve in performance when moved elsewhere.

Other shit like having no grocery stores and only fast food and liquor stores nearby. Also poor people live in areas with worse air quality, closer to prisons and factories, etc.

It’s not total bullshit but this is NOT the time. The virus isn’t racist. But it will disproportionately effect poor people. They’re more likely to be obese and diabetic and such.

Most normies just take flat risk like zooming around on motorcycles drunk and ruining their lives in an automobile because "loud car go vroom vroom very fast!" You can be doing good and then your entire house and town gets wiped out because "lol these levvys are plenty strong!" or said Vrrom-vroom slams into the back off your car doing 80 through a neighborhood. Way I see it, is you may as well take some risk with upside because eventually life is going to swing negative risk at you regardless.

Google is good because it's an ad company. The AI side of its business was always crap. Google brain don't ever actually output anything, deepmind does. After its acquisition, deepmind started slowing down in output, and now it's a shadow of what it used to be (though still solid).
That's unrelated to the software itself anyway. MSR is doing much better work than google in the AI space (but still suck), yet none of their ML software offering are used by anyone, even themselves. Internally it's dominated by pytorch, with a few tf users. In general, tf users are teams that want to use ML in $domain, not those who are _in_ ML, as well as management-based decision to go for tf for no raisins, whereas the crushing majority of research-based outlets use pytorch, and this is only increasing over time.
Conversely, facebook is NOT a good AI company, despite the fact they have good research output and top-tier software. While google is offering plenty of software for playing with existing AI solutions as well as experiment with it, all at competitive rates, and amazon is offering the means to scale up a complete solution to business scale for cheap, all-the-while M$ is playing catchup as usual, facebook is really not showing much meaningful production from its AI advances.

Environmental injustice isn’t really “racism” in the traditional sense. If that’s what she’s referring to.

It’s not that racism is a problem, it’s that poor people are disproportionately effected by negative environmental factors, and poor people are disproportionately minority groups compared to what you would expect based on the ratio of minorities to white (and/or Asians).

The problems that create these situations are a rats nest to unravel. But it’s pretty obvious that there are some positive feedback cycles. Once you’re poor, it’s very fucking hard to move up from that state.
