18255814 No.18255814 [Reply] [Original]

I work at an airport and found this guy on the ground by the departures, figure some rich divorced whore got outta dodge.
Anyway I just got it appraised and it looks like I got about 5K worth of platinum and a 40K diamond, which wont hold any value as currency.
Do I hold onto it or sell it to a paranoid prepper?

Platinum is under $800 per ounce. The platinum in that ring weighs no more than 1/4 ounce. Even if there is a premium on platinum right now, no way is there 5k in it. How many carats is the stone?

This. Maybe 6-7 grams of platinum at the most .
Looks like 2-3 kt solitaire.
Depending on quality of the diamond maybe $2k to $8k range.

Also, regardless of appraisal, resale market for diamonds sucks because cartel with plenty of supply, and advertising that convinces women they don't want a "used" diamond. I would be surprised if you could readily get 1000-1500 for it, but who knows.

Well at least on wish. You can buy platnium rings by the bag full.

>> No.18256904

Let me give you second appraisal of the platinum value. If that ring is platinum it looks to be about 0.25ozt. The price of platinum is now $730/ozt.
Anon, you have approx $182.50 worth of platinum (if it's plantinum). Not $5,000. Next time don't ask your little sister to appraise rings you steal.

>> No.18256997

>>18255814
This appraisal is absolutely bonkers. Who appraised it? Unless it's a GIA certified 2ct VS2/G you don't have anything even on the same PLANET as 45k. If you get an offer for 4.5k you should take it all day.
>>18256254
This. The resale market for jewelry is absolutely pitiful for sellers. 1500 is probably reasonable - it depends totally on the center diamond. You should expect maybe $200 for the mounting alone.
>>18256283
No. A diamonds price increases exponentially with it's size. E.g. A 3 carat diamond is more than 3 times as rare as a 1 carat diamond.

are the ones I marked in red inclusions inside the stone or are they on the surface?

if its on the surface its probably a cubic zirconia stone, theres also what looks like abrasions (in blue) typical for this kind of stone

if not then probably moissanite, the stone also looks slightly yellow, hard to judge because its an emerald cut (can't see refraction properly)

I doubt it but check its fire to be sure. moissanite is a really good imitation. If it passes then send it to a gemologist to get it certified, it will sell for significantly more when certified, well it will sell closer to market price, diamond resale is usually very bad

True, even though 9/10 the diamond was harvested in insanely inhuman conditions, things like this are significant to older people who don't know any better. Return it anon, tis God's will.

Bring it over to the gold and silver PAwnshop. Talk to my guy Rick. He might give you some belly button lint and a used crackpipe for it. Like Rick Always says, you will never know what can walk in those doors.
