Believe me when I tell you that Asian countries aren't worth actually living in unless you are the emperor or whatever.

They're great places to just hang out in for a while. It's when you try to take anything seriously there (get a real job, do something stupid like settle down with a local, learn the culture) that everything gets shit.

Boomers and drifters were right all along, but if it's just one or two years at a Western company that's probably fine.

Long hours, not necessarily hard word but you're expected to show up early and leave late while really only pretending to do actual work and then you have to go out drinking with your co-workers and superiors.

Other than that, crazy expensive rent.

I suppose that it's not -as- hot as Bangkok but it's still Tokyo, 15 degrees is their winter temperature and during summer it gets to be like 40 degres.

You will find it immensely difficult to find a real job that isn't teaching English. Your Japanese needs to be basically perfect to even have a shot, and even then you will encounter a lot of resistance.
There needs to be some reason for them to go through all the added difficulties of specifically hiring YOU instead of a Japanese guy who can do the same job; if you want that to not be the fact that you speak English, then you need to develop some irreplaceable, unique set of technical skills and then find a company that wants them.

My friend started working in japan, it sounds like absolute dogshit, working 6 days a week, staying at work for 12 hours a day just to look good, going out with his alcoholic boss almost every night, expected to spend every weekend entertaining foreigners when they come on business trips. Plus they're arrogant and patronizing to foreigners, trying their best to make you feel unwelcome so you will stop fucking their women
