4 Days ago Italy was in the lead for most cases, the next day 1000 deaths a day.

3 Days ago the US took the lead, USA USA USA!

Incoming 1000 deaths a day.

did you just find out about the boom&bust cycle or something? this is literally capitalism in a nutshell.

>good times come
>everybody overleverages thinking <insert asset class here like stocks, housing, etc> can "only go up"
>one day it something happens so it doesn't go up, it goes down.
>it actually goes down kind of a lot
>people freak out and panic sell, which creates more panic selling in response, which snowballs
>market crashes
>recession/depression occurs
>things eventually recover
>good times return
>everyone overleverages again thinking something can only go up

remember "the roaring 20's"? they literally had a roughly decade-long bull run, just like we just had, before everything went to shit because people overleveraged and realized if they didn't get out ASAP they would get turbofucked.

it keeps fucking happening. but it also keeps recovering, remember that, it always comes back. learn how to profit from it.

Long story short, American are selfish idiotic assholes.

So long as you see people outside running to the store and chatting up their neighbors this won't stop.

So long as you see planes in the sky, the new hot spots won't stop.

Our freedumbs will be our downfall.

Whenever this broke out in China I had a morbid fascination with how the goverment responded, how brutal it was to lock scores of people into apartment buildings for months to fend for themselves.

In the end, they were right, Its the only way to halt this thing. We are fucking idiots for asking out citizens for voluntary self isolation.

There needs to be nothing voluntary about it.

No dummy. If the virus has already gotten in your body and infected you, which it can do through your eyes, nose, mouth, or broken skin, it’s in your cells. So if vaping doesn’t kill enough of your own cells to damn near kill you, it won’t kill enough of your cells to stop replicating the virus. But I like your creativity.

ETFs just track the market. So when the market is going to go down another 50-75% you are just going to go down with it with an ETF. So why hold an ETF in a bear market, makes no sense.

DCAing into ETFs and just hodling them indefinitely its boomer investing. Where you just pray that long term, they will not only go up but significantly beat inflation. That works when you start out in the 50s where no one owns stocks. Now most americans own stocks and most of their savings are in stocks.

There is no growth left long term for stocks. They are just going to slowly die or just go up due to inflation.

>> No.18168564

Lets say you buy Swppx (S&P 500 fund). You dump 540.00 into it to start. Each year you dump 1000.00 more into it. You do this for 26 years. Assuming an 8% return over all that time your left with 90,344.00 after 26 years. Which divided by 12 gives you 7528 a month to live from. This is just an example.

Checked. Index funds are THE best long term investment for most people. Plus the fact you're gonna be buying at a discount. Almost zero risk and returns of 7%. You don't need to do anything special, you have already hit the lotto. In 10 years this will be a million dollar plus nest egg.

Play around with this. You will have a fuckton of money. Investing in individual stocks runs a risk of losing money while investing in ETFs over the long term literally is foolproof. Take 100k or whatever and buy some large cap stocks of your choosing. If you wanna play with options use only 10k of that money. You want to preserve capital and grow it. You do not need a 10x overnight. The biggest mistake people who make tons of money gambling or trading is believing their luck will continue. You sound reasonable though, play this safe and your children and grandchildren will thank you. Congrats bro.

Generally I would recommend index funds, but this TRULY is unprecedented territory. I don’t want to own indexes that hold companies with bad balance sheets. I’m even considering ditching some of my VTSAX, which is practically sacrilege. I think there may be ETFs and and actively managed funds that are likely to outperform.

Here, I like this take on it:

https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2020-03-28/coronavirus-don-t-read-too-much-into-stocks-sudden-rebound

That said, I think it’s perfectly fine to put a good chunk into something like VTSAX. But I’m leaning towards VDIGX right now, and am looking for funds that are focused on quality and good balance sheets.

Your nitpicking on technical terms but you clearly don't know the difference if you think indexes "hold" anything. Index is just some calculation based on something. I think I will sleep on this for a week because I'm honestly still feeling quite paralyzed. I won't quit my job but don't get mad at me if I decide against index funds. The biggest thing to help build a nice wealth egg later in life is to not be in debt. The more your forced to fork out of your pay on bills, debt payments, the less your left with to save/invest. The other is time. More you got in front of you the better you are v.s behind you. I'd say 40 is the halfway mark if you ain't jumped in yet. Even then at 40 you need a nice seed wad to kick start things. If this will be just an extra layer of income, not the main, then the seed wad amount don't gotta be much.

That's kind of my point, it's a total market fund so it aims to own everything. It's spreading out risk but I don't know how many of those tinier companies are actually shit that's going to tank.

>>18168852
The point with that kind of investing is you have a job and keep buying. When it tanks, it's just an opportunity to buy more. It's also generally used in 60/40 portfolios, but most of us hate bonds. However that would've protected you fairly well from this downturn, especially if you're older and have been adjusting accordingly.

"statistical" TA is really quantitative analysis, i've been trying to get people here to start using QA when referencing stuff using math and hard numbers vs. TA for chart patterns and other subjective shit, but it hasn't caught on yet unfortunately.
my main point though was that it's not about predicting the future. it's about, in essence, how high of a probability there is that price will continue to do what it is doing currently based in past and present data.

AMZN has not really dipped significantly(still bullish on it and would def consider buying on any big dips), and Netflix has an insane P/E combined with a lot of market saturation and huge expenditures on its "specials" that have been halted due to corona, not liking the balance sheet. Waste management is a good company but again, not a huge dip and not too much potential for growth. Ford is a meme imo, going even lower, falling knife for 2 decades, bronco won't save it, EV F-150 won't save it. APPL has a fuckton of money as well, they could be swooping up lots of promising companies very soon.

Alright fucker, I'm going to give you the golden ticket. You sell a spy 270 call and buy a 275 one dated for may. Your maximum risk is 500 dollars, your max gain is the difference between the two premiums.A quick look on options profit calculator will net you 192$ if spy closes below 269 on May 1st.(pic related). If you're feeling feisty, you can do the same for puts; buying a 220 put and selling a 225 put. You will gain 121$ now if spy closes above 224. In other words, a closure between 224 < money < 269 gives you 313$ dollars, meaning you risk 500 in order to gain 313$ on both sides. Your max risk now is 500 - 121 on one side and 500 - 192 on the other end.
