Silver is sold across 99% of American precious metal dealers. Additionally, some of the precious metals have recovered from the dip (gold, and palladium), so OP likely wants to get a few dozen ounces of silver while it's still ata discount.

This. Precious metals are literally sold out. I expect a complete decoupling from the paper contracts. The situation is similar to what would happen if everyone pulled their BTC off exchanges all at once and it turns out that 50% of the BTC was missing.

Early last year I also wanted a small stack ~50oz as a hedge. Bought a bit, then went on ebay and put in low offers across 4 lots, each of 25oz each. The plan was I'd only win one of them and that would be the completion of the stack. I wasn't outbid on any of them and ended up paying for 2x as much silver as I wanted.

Only now do I feel comfy

for those of us who already bought in it's the opposite. I fell for the silver meme in fucking 2014 and even though the dollar price of silver hasn't moved since then I am up like 50% because the Norwegian Krone has gone to absolute shit.
In fact, my silver stack has outperformed the stock market since 2014, so I don't need to feel like a retard for buying silver anymore.

Why did the price of precious metal drop amidst economical crisis in 2008 ?
Why did the price jump so violently in 2011 ???
Any1 here traded physical silver during that time ?

>> No.18145982

>>18145555
The premiums are high because the dealers have silver from $16-18 spot. They would literally lose money and go out of business if they sold with the premium pricing model from 2 months ago.

Someone was paying those 48-49$ for ounce in 2011... no sane person in 2011 would say: "the crisis has past, people are spending like crazy on new cars and iphones. NOW IT IS TIME TO INVEST IN SILVER !!!"
If anything is artificial here then it is that bubble in 2011.
That's why I'm asking has anyone here traded in physical silver during last 20 years

>> No.18146295

>>18145982
yes i understand there is prob a reason like that. and its not necessarily price gouging. im just wondering if its a bad move for me to go ahead and buy more now at these premiums. really i don't care much because at $22 or so an ounce its still not far off or maybe even cheaper than what i had payed as recently as last year for some ASEs

>> No.18146326

>>18146110
>has anyone here traded in physical silver during last 20 years
i was buying small amounts in the early 2000s leading into the 2008 crash. then I sold around 2012 or so, when it was up to $30/oz. i didn't want to sell but i needed some money desperately. i did come out a little ahead by selling near the peak high
preferably i'll keep stacking and holding long term, but its not unthinkable that i might sell some if the price goes up significantly. then i buy more later at lower price, and so on.

High taxes slow the trading, low industry demand, low overall supply.
Low supply and demand give it volatility, but taxes slows the trades a lot. This makes it easily manipulateable. No need to manipulate right now, but wait a bit for when it blows up in the near future

>Why did the price of precious metal drop amidst economical crisis in 2008 ?
everything dropped. attributable to the fact that people werr eporb dumpign it with everythign else.
then notice how it shot up right after because people starting buying it up while it was low. its a cycle

which is why we want to buy now if it looks like were near the bottom. already the prices have been going up obviously

>> No.18146479

>>18145928
The price of paper silver plunged along with every other asset during the 08-09 crisis much like it did recently. What happened next was people flooded into physical silver and gold creating a shortage which led to the spike in price. I sold some silver during that period and people were paying up to a 100% premium just to get their hands on some physical. The main driver was the fear of hyper inflation in the USD.

It took 2 years to wipe out the physical supply during 08-09. It only took 2 weeks to do it this time. That should tell you just how high this will likely go.

Id expect silver prices to go back to $18 and an ASE still being worth around $20-22. JMBullion occasionally has sales for like $2.50 over spot which is when I buy them.

However this COVID19 is likely to be lifechanging so I wouldnt be surprised if $5-8 premiums become the norms.

READ THIS - RELEVANT INFORMATION

There is still lots of silver available in here Germany. The following website allows you to compare prices for various coins from different online dealers in Germany.

https://www.gold-preisvergleich.de/

The word “Preisvergleich“ translated means “price comparison”. In Germany there is a 7% sales tax for certain silver coins and 19% for silver in general while gold remains completely tax free. The demand for silver has therefore been here comparatively low. Conclusively most forms of silver are still in stock and are even available in larger quantities. Premiums have also not risen as much as in other places so that prices are still comparatively low here despite the aforementioned tax. Remember that these prices do not include shipping and some offers are only presale/preorder. Also expect shipping to take significantly longer because of the China virus.
