Has anyone here ever tried hydroponic gardening? I'm a cityfag so I dont have property for a real garden but I feel like starting a small indoor garden could be valuable in the coming months. Thoughts?

Are you me? I'm building that exact setup right now on my small back deck. Went verticle cause lack of space. My suggestion start it outside under sunlight first. Articfical light is a whole different game. It's not really price effective for me yet but it's been good to me. Fresh herbs whenever I need in my kitchen.

Thanks for the suggestion. I haven't started building it yet. I do have a couple nice lights already from owning reptiles as a kid lol

Good luck my dude. Hate to say it but the commhnity on reddit is pretty good. Whatever you do....don't build something that people show you with no green growing on it. There's a lot of designs with no growth and that's for a reason. Also make sure you get pump with enough head height and look into nfs61 plastics for potable water and food grade resiviours. Also you're gonna want a filtration system on the return to reduce buildup in the tight flow zones. Goodluck anon.

Tried fogponics, was actually decent. Get a regular fogger, put it in nutrient water and on a timer with a small fan.

My friend is the co-founder of Heloponix. They created the HydroPod that does this.

>> No.18109855

The intrinsic issue with growing active system hydro and variety is this....the larger the setup the more growth you get with less work. Larger resiviours allow easy ec, ph and temp control.

The issue with that is with variety you cant give each plant their own needs. So it's a battle of how to lump each plant variety into categories to allow optimum conditions for each.

With potted plants you can custom fertilize and move to which ever light source fits ur plants.

Kratzy might be the most versitile as you can custom taylor nutes to each plant.

Look up deep water culture. By far the easiest method of hydroponics. Do not skimp on your air pump quality, get one that's made for hydro not a POS aquarium pump.

OPs setup uses NTF and gravity as natural aeration. He does not pump air. Plus indoors a diaphragm pump will have you wearing earplugs.

I alsondont run an air pump. You can see some experiments kratzy vs dwv kratzy crushes it. There's a lot of worth in learning kratzy and then maybe upgrade from there.

How long did ur nebulizer last? I want to try but a read lots of problems. Included foggerponics being terrible for vertical setups. Which is ideal indoors for minimum space utilization.

Why are cityfags like this? Just put them in a pot of soil. Use a window planter. Why do you have to reinvent the wheel?

Actually, I've been thinking the same and doubled down on research. There are two great books, which are easy to pirate -

http://dl.booktolearn.com/ebooks2/engineering/agriculture/9780760357590_DIY_Hydroponic_Gardens_cc04.pdf

Plant Factory an Indoor Vertical Farming System I can't find a pdf but you can get it on b-ok for pdf's.

The biggest thing if you do vertical enclosed hydroponic is the lack of carbon dioxide - all the research papers I've read on sci-tw/google scholar state they improved crops 30-60% by introducing co2.

Then again, no idea - I was toying with this and mushrooms as profitable side ventures and roll them out in south east asia cause I'm stuck here for a while.

The problem is lack of dirt/land that's why it's popular in the city.

Then you look at the equipment as a capital cost.

Then you go to the store and see a head of fucking romaine is 4-5$.

You see that the growing cycle is 21-28 days, reduced to 14-18 days w/ growing lights with proper plurple lighting.

You then see you have the cheapest energy in the nation, and the total kw is not even a few dollars on the bill.

You make a bulk order on aliexpress, alibaba or if you're a fgt on amazon and pay higher markup.

And then you have fun. You don't need to get your hands dirty. Because w/ dirt you also can't control them fancy chemicals.

And then if you kinda are a super fgt you don't have to clean, or wash the leafy greens because they're organic.

Then you go to the farmers market and sell them for a profit.

But this is /biz/ what do you fgts know about a self funding hobby.

Actually this bros. You need to grow more nutrient dense crops to sustain you. Potatos in a big fabric pot. Beans in a planter box. Obviously any plot will provide a lot more food.

Glad to see the gardening threads starting up
Can’t really help much with indoor gardening tips since we keep a big outdoor vegetable garden
But heating pads and cow manure are good when first planting seeds.
Each seed has an optimal germinating temperature range. It’s important at the beginning to have the right conditions to ensure a strong stem and roots.
