what does the stock market dropping like this actually mean, in practical terms, to an average joe? i literally LITERALLY only care that society can still keep the grocery store stocked and the lights on, how reasonable will that be? im happy for a price reset and (potentially, but probably not because of corruption) shitty companies failing and getting bought for pennies on the dollar by new management, lower house prices, etc. lots of good things for millenials. also i don't want my parents to get WuFlu, but we all got a really bad case of the Flu over a month ago so maybe that was WuFlu and we're fine? no way to know, we just all assumed it was a really REALLY bad case of the Flu. would be cool if immune to it now.

We were already heading into a depression, this disease is just kicking us there a bit faster. CEO's knew the economy was going to tank and were jumping ship by the dozens at the start of this year.

Interest rates will go up on housing due to risk (as they are in Leafland) and more and more people who are living paycheck to paycheck are going to be absolutely BTFO'd if they are behind on bills or their jobs don't re-materialize when this winds down.

the funny thing is i started out with moving averages, then got into literally hundreds of different indicators and what they do and what signals they give, and came around full circle to realizing that it's all just moving averages. you literally trade based on what price and volume are doing, on average, over time. indicators just apply math to this to make it easier to see.

generally speaking you're looking for things to be rising on average, and having positive values, when you want to take a long position. you want things falling and having negative values, when you want to short. if they don't agree, like say a positive/rising short term MA vs. a negative/falling long term MA, you're likely ranging. it's pretty simple, a lot of my work has just been a matter of optimizing around these general ideas.

volume-weighted shit is mostly about keeping you out of choppiness. it can also be used for high probability setups, hell i know people who literally just trade off of VWAP setups alone.

a fun tip: instead of doing price crossing and closing beyond a MA, use a super fast MA like an EMA(5) or even EMA(3). it should keep you out of times where the price oscillates around the baseline too much, instead of having a candle you reduce price to a single point. the key is that it's extremely fast, single digit period. what number you choose is up to your discretion, but i've always been a fan of choosing some kind of fib number. i use 3,5,8,21,34, and 89 a lot, but it's not much different than say 5,10,20,50,100 kind of stuff, it's mostly about what you consider a short/med/long term number.

Wavelet decomposition is basically the decomposition of time series data into a base function. It's very similar to fourier. But instead of using sine waves you can use almost any function. Depending on your data there are base functions which work well and functions that don't work well. In this case it comes down to the most elemental stock move.(I guess) Once you have your decomposition you can rebuild the time series but leave out the high frequency parts which then gives you a low pass filter.

candles are still important, they tell you what range the price is trading in, the open-high-low-close or OHLC. but for signals, if you use a fast MA you can reduce it down to a single point, which helps in terms of determining crossovers. you'll notice that in a lot of cases you'll see price crossing the slower MA a bunch but the EMA(5) stays below it, which would basically indicate that you're probably ranging with a bearish bias. you still need the actual candles to see where price is trading at to consider where you should set your limit orders at in the price range.

this also works better in day trading, the problem with trading on the daily time frame is that you get gapping, especially with the current crisis going on. gapping tends to fuck up moving averages, because it creates outliers. the best signals are when price follows the average as closely as possible. you determine this using volatility indicators, the main one being the ATR or average true range, which basically tells you what the average price range over a period of time is. if the average size of a candle is $0.20 on the 1m timeframe, and you get a candle that has a range of $0.40 then it's twice the ATR and probably high volatility. ideally you'd want a trend with a bunch of roughly $0.20 candles.
