I'm 30 and making 140k a year, and I keep telling people like my mom and siblings that I only make 80k because I know that if people knew how much I actually made they'd either be jealous and hate me or be constantly on my ass asking for money thinking I was rich. I can't tell anybody about my successes, and living in secrecy like this sucks. Can anybody relate? How do people manage living like this

Thank you for this, this is really helpful. I've been extremely poor most of my life and only in the past five years or so have been able to make something of myself. You're right, what I'm experiencing right now can be very temporary and I should be grateful and prepare for the future rather than feeling guilty because I (for now) have more than others.

80k vs. 140k doesn't translate to THAT huge a difference in lifestyle, they're both comfortably upper middle class (in most parts of the US, anyway). If anybody asks about anything specific, if they drop hints about your home or car seeming really expensive, you can just mumble something about having found a great deal on them, but I bet nobody ever asks because that sort of comment is considered tacky.

So what's the fucking issue? You're just bursting to tell people that you have a six-figure income? You shouldn't be. Some guys have 9-inch dicks that they're justifiably proud of. They're not "living in secrecy" for not showing them off to everybody they meet.

I went the safe route, I make around the same as OP, but I got hoodrich on crypto during the bullrun in 2017-2018

I spent it all triple N leases. Make about 90k extra on top of my salary after taxes and the note and have a little over 4 million in property with rent payments that are locked in for the next 15 years
